A fantastic source of inspiration & ideas, can't recommend it highly enough.
Did a few hours up 'lotment today. I had a delivery of fruit plants this week so prepped beds to plant up on Boxing Day. Then moved onto collecting rubbish, today's focus: glass.
The white bag is full of the large pieces and I've already removed a 10 litre bag of small bits.
Can anyone identify the plant in the below picture? It spreads by thick roots on the surface.
Lastly I uncovered the brick path running down the middle. Will patch repair and bolster with soil on the low side.
The path was a good find but all the broken glass wasn't By working at it in stages, the shed and ground will be cleared by spring, ready for you to enjoy the Allotment.
Took my plants up today and since I was going up in the car took a few other bits and bobs to leave overnight.
A red gooseberry whose name I don't recall:
I dug a new hole for it as I didn't want the thing so close to the path
These are Joan J autumn rasps, not sure if I need to put in a proper support system for them. The company I bought them from wasn't too strict about it...
Flattened an uneven area of ground. I was told the plants I couldn't ID above were nettles but had been weedkilled, hence no fuzzy young growth. Ripped some of those out. I am having a stinging nettle patch for wildlife, but not in the berry line.
Pulled some fence pieces I like the look of off the heap. I might use them to prettify the collapsed bank and corrugated metal bit. I've decided to make a wildlife pond here, it doesn't mentioned ponds in the rule list I was sent so I assume it's fine?
This is some of the plastic mess in the heap ?
View from the rat burrow on the top of the berm. RHS is going to be berries and currants, LHS where all the rubbish is will be for fruit trees and flowers eventually...Maybe a small veg bed?
Now going to look at waterbutts in the sale. ? Tomorrow's task is clearing the brambles around the shack so I can rig up the gutters at some point.
A skip on hand would be useful and save a lot of car journeys with all that rubbish. It would have been a great help if all the plastic had been cleared before you took over.
Can see pictures now, spotted a broken hoe in your shed I have one at home good tool to stir up the compost bin, the plastic grey tubes sometimes things like that are to keep plants blanched white like leaks or celery or good to grow parsnips in to make longer,
Shed shack looks good made from pallets and if you know me I love pallets making my shed from them
Definitely need to sort through the pile in case of hedgehogs and lots to throw out , I have loads of broken glass on my plot and still loads to clear, weed is a nettle
Congrats on the new allotment. I have had mine for 4 years now and love every minute of being on it . Best advice I was given was it is not a sprint but a marathon ! and it is true , even after 4 years it is still a work in progress, but it is very satisfying to see it happen .
With regard to supporting the raspberries you have planted , I grow Joan J myself and have never given them any support and they seem fine . My next job this weekend is going to be cutting them back to ground level . I am really pleased with them , they give large quantities of good sized lovely tasting berries , which freeze well also.
Ah, good advice and info from Gardengirl and Terry Many thanks
Yesterday I cleared some brambles from where I'm putting the waterbutts (decided to get two smaller ones so I can cram them in my car). Will thin the dead bits and weed around the rest of the brambles as apparently the berries are good.
Made more of a mess while tidying up
Also found out I have an elderberry which is cool, I was thinking of buying one.

Yes, I'm trying to collate the rubbish now so I have to do as few runs to the tip as possible...
