To Victoria I am sorry too hear your bench was taken as you have worked so hard. We donmt have allotments here in south africa so I enjoyed reading your progress.

Victoria sponge terrible about bench, I thought when things got stolen it was from outside the allotments till some wood and pallets got stolen from my plot and they said it would be someone on the inside of the allotment site

Maybe a good idea to look for another site if you do not like the site you are on - you have done really well with this plot, it could be a one off or the same person look up and down your site for the bench

Hi Victoria, only just seen this update on your thread a wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of the latest setback. Really feel for you. I too hope you find another plot - they don't deserve to have you and your happy hardworking personality there.  I feel bad to say that as I know you've put so much hard work into that plot but I can't help wondering if you'll be truly happy there long term? Xx

  • Hi guys, thanks for your good wishes, I think you are all correct and am waiting for a response from the council.

I've been popping up on weekends, all my fruit has green shoots now which is encouraging.

Noticed my fork has gone missing today, I'd broken the handle off but was still using it - can't understand what anyone else would want with it. Find I have little curiosity about it, along with the other recent incidents, the bent metal pole, the flattened rat, and the levitating broom handle. Meh! Not interested. Also somehow my wire structure for the rasps has been bent to the ground, I've left it as it is.

Horse tail is coming along nicely thoughimage Not in the areas I've cleared though so I guess it doesn't immediately reappear.

Hope to have a positive update shortly. Have to say - everyone at my work found the bench story hilarious ??

  • Victoria, It sounds like you have some movement of the night at your allotment! Its not good that people 'break' in and mess up other people's plots!

  • Whoop! I can whoop out loud now as yesterday I moved plots to a new site??

Didn't want to announce it in case someone unscrupulous was reading this and decided to be mean to my plants. Thought that might be an explanation for the weird carry-on. I was only up there last weekend and on Fri evening I found a mummified rat outside the shed door, scissors at the base of one of my Joan J canes and the other side of my raspberry wire contraption had collapsed.☹️ Must be haunted.

Packed up early yesterday, took my plants to the new plot (and 26 seed pots that I dug up, pronged two)  took down the guttering and waterbutts and took them home as I don't have a building on the new 'happy plot'.

Hopefully I've left it better for the next dude.

A gentlemen in the terrace behind the allotments told me it was his neighbour who chucked over the rubble and broken slabs, I kind of guessed it was someone from the houses doing that bit of flytippery. He gave me some onion sets, which was extremely nice of him, I'm planting them Easter weekend.

This is my new plot, a little bit further away than the one above, but my initial thoughts are it is in a much nicer area and the plot holders that I've met have told me they have no issues.

A lady vacated this plot recently as it floods at the far end, I can't see a reason why it should pool there so will dig down in due course and investigate.

Already in the plot are a tree, I think apple, a bolted rhubarb which I have researched today (never encountered one before) and will sort out on the weekend and what I initially thought were rasps but now think are closely planted, very upright currants. The leeks (?image) aren't mine and are going. Planted fruit on the lhs and the rhs can be for veg and fruit trees. Flowers in between. It is much smaller than Previous Plot, but at least I won't need a lawnmower. Already contemplating a greenhouse.?

Victoria, I am very happy for you and trust that all goes well with this allotment image It is still early enough in the gardening year for you to make progress.

  • Thanks Joyceimage Was a bit worried about moving the plants in the heat but I'd emptied a waterbutt on them in the week prior to the move. The new site has a tap so will use that until I get the water collecting sorted.

    That's wonderful news Victoria ??.

Only just read back about the terrible troubles you've had on the previous plot, what a rotten lot image.

Things are looking up with the new site, it looks nice and tidy with a good thick hedge at the end, no more fly tippingimage.  Next door (with the shed?) seems a well kept space.  Have you met your new neighbours yet?  I do hope they're nice and friendly, you deserve a bit of good luck.

Happy growing on your new and improved allotment image
