Thanks COG - I planted it nearly 30 yrs ago. I wasn't sure it was in the right place, but it is - and for a week or so it's stunning - they rest of the year it's just beautiful

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
Chicky, there's a large holly tree (in the wood behind the house) laden with berries. The redwings will soon be arriving and the berries will be gone in a couple of days. I spend ages at the kitchen window watching them.
Hi Aym, it's about 20 years old so just a young springer! It got to about 4ft in the first 5 years though but growth is a lot slower now. It's shaded for most of the day by the house but gets late afternoon sun in it's position by a west-facing fence.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Here is an Acer I grew from seed which is now turning:
And a couple of my grapevine which got out of control at the far end and climbed some trees!:
The leaves on that won't last long now - one proper frost and the lot will drop.
Impressed with the Acer grown from seed, Bob.
It's been an excellent year for autumn colour.
