  • What an amazing garden you have Slum!

Just over 3 weeks since I last posted some pictures. It is interesting for me to look back and see how much everything has grown in that time. I've spent hours gardening - where does the time go!? It is 2 weeks until the village open gardens event and I'm wondering what will go over in that time and what will start to bloom.

This site appears to have a problem posting photos at the moment. I'll try again later.

Unknown rose variety. The flowers are a really dark red, looking like velvet from a distance.

    ...and some more roses...

Lovely flowers and that is a gorgeous geranium. Do you know which one it is?

Sorry, no idea. It was in the garden when we arrived. We've got 3 patches of it. It is a robust variety.

How fabulous is this garden? It is absolutely fantastic Slum.  You have given me lots of motivation and inspiration to tackle my wilderness.  Great stuff - thanks for sharing your journey.

Thank-you Mags, that is kind of you to say. It hasn't been without the odd disaster, the latest one is a crab apple I planted just over a year ago. It appeared to be doing really well and then the strong winds and very hot temperatures did this...

I thought I'd been giving it enough water, about 20 litres per week since this spring and the one planted 10 metres away is fine. I'm hoping it will recover and put on some new leaves. I'll be gutted if it's dead.

One week until Open Gardens and overall I'm happy with how it is looking. It is going to be strange having hundreds of people wandering around.

Back on page 3 of this thread I posted this picture from March

That area now looks like this...

The neighbours pay no interest in the garden...unless they can lean through to munch it...

Speaking as I was of disasters...the planted area you can see in the photo above had a massive lupin until the persistent high winds of the other week. I've planted some bedding plants for now but the lupin is looking like it wants to regrow.

imageGood luck with your Open Garden. Mine is open on 9th July. Your garden is looking lovely. Glad you were able to post photos, some people have had trouble this weekend.

Here is my garden, in case you would like a look. May last year.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
