I find the whole paint names game quite baffling - let's face it the companies offer 10 variations of 'cream' or 'beige' - so why not number them rather than employ someone to invent ridiculous names. Do they think that "over-priced latte" " or "hint of cobweb" are so objective and superior that people need these names??

I am having a 'learning experience' choosing kitchen wall tiles at the moment... a bit more sensible I thought as generally they are labelled "light grey", "dark grey" etc. Oh dear... it's so hard to choose! What I want is the beige/grey/sage colour of the forum background colour - Yes! That's it! Wonder if they have that...

We had the paint conversation at work recently, so I can add a couple more suggestions for 'alternative' paint names - Hearing Aid Beige and Colostomy Bag Brown.

The others weren't suitable for putting on here....image image

Just as an aside. Unused chimneys need to have a capping at the top on the outside bit and a ventilator fitted at the bottom of the shaft, in the room where it has been filled in.

If you are not going to use the chimney it is best to get it swept first before capping it top and bottom.

I am waiting for my OH  to remove all his brass and jazz band stuff from the hall so I can wash the skirting board. Not my favourite task but I only get to do house work when there is not so much to do in the garden. (Other than look to drool over plant catalogues.)

  • Looking nice Doghouse.  Why did you lower the ceiling?

I'm at the age where I can't afford to pay someone to do stuff (crippling mortgage, young children not senior in my role etc.).  I don't believe in paying over the odds so if something isn't value for money I'm not interested. I didn't want to pay silly money just to get veneered chipboard cupboards.  There's nothing wrong with them, I just take exception to parting with £9k to have them.  I bought some oak and cut it up. I can't say I knew what I was doing but I think it turned out okay!

    I like that, Doghouse, hehe.

I've never met anyone that rides a motorbike that hasn't had at least one genuine near-death experience.  I'm sure it's fun but that's not for me!
