If the headline had said "Joining the team of regular contributors" instead of "the new presenter" I would agree that there is no ambiguity.  The full article does make it clear that Monty remains the core of the programme. It was the use of "The new presenter" which to many, myself included, suggested a single individual who would be 'in charge' of the show.

In the current format I would suggest that Monty is 'the presenter' whilst Carol et al are regular contributors.

I watch very little telly, but my weekly 'Guilty Pleasure' is kicking the OH out to play golf on a weekend, and curl up on the sofa watching Monty on catch up.

His lovely manner and articulate explanations are fab!

Love the way GW dips in and out of all the subjects/presenters - keeps it fresh and interesting.

I always wonder what Monty does with all of his produce?

I hope they'll keep the new format and length, I am really enjoying it. (Though, dare I say it, I still prefer Beechgrove. But that just means there are two gardening shows on that I really like.)

  • I adore Monty and hope he continues for as long as he wants to! But If he does decide to leave one day, then Adam Frost will be a great replacement.

It is my dream (and I'm sure many others too) to buy a gorgeous house with a couple of unloved acres, and make it into my perfect garden. Now I get to live my dream through Adam Frost's new garden! I'm looking forward to watching it grow throughout the years.

Short memories?  They did announce at the beginning of the season that they were looking for new presenters to join the team and expand the coverage of gardens and gardening.  I think Adam is an inspired choice.

Monty's stroke was attributed to his gadding back and forth across time zones to make his 80 gardens series.   He withdrew from GW to take much needed rest and, fortunately, made a full recovery and returned to GW after the intervening fiasco format and on condition it was from his own garden.

This hour long formula is really good and has something for everyone.   Record it and FF if there are bits you don't like.

  • Aym I guess I'll just make do with my end of terrace and 15m garden until the lottery win!

Forgot to mention, I have that clematis Monty showed - http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=580 - and it survives our winters and our summers and is in fine fettle despite being munched by the neighbouring cows this year

I agree Patsy F. Monty is such a natural presenter and his advice and recommendations are extremely useful. Its great to know that he has his garden snags too e.g. box blight. I love to see the antics of Nigel and Nell and on a Friday night I feel that a friend has called round to talk about gardening. The programme is an oasis amongst the dross and repeats that have become the bane of TV these days and make me resent the cost of my TV licence.
