Hello Johnny Canoe. My husband would love your weather. He has trouble with restless legs. Cold weather extremes suit him down to the ground. image

I hope you got the cream for your coffee without it freezing on the way back. We are getting rain, and the temperature has risen accordingly

  • Never mind the bears hibernating, at -21degrees I would seriously be thinking of hibernating myself!  How do you cope with it Johnny, but then you are used to that type of weather and we are not. If the temp drops below +10 here I start to feel uncomfortable.

Dull today, but no rain and very little wind.

  • Hello Dinah,

I can relate to your husband. This past summer and fall has been my worst year suffering with restless legs syndrome. Even in the winter months I never wear socks and shoes in the house, just bare and flip flops because the heat in my feet. Very annoying!  Now we hit the big deep freeze this week and I can feel the difference in my legs already. I am able to get more sleep at night and I don't move my legs around so much when I'm sitting watching TV or at the computer. Oh, and I'm a bit less grumpy!

    Hello GuernseyDonkey2,

The trick is to dress in layers and have a pair of boots that keep your feet warm to -40C. But once you get outside, just keep moving and even your fingers, before you know it you are quite toasty.

That is Canadian toasty.lol  I recall staying at bed and breakfasts in the UK and they served us toast cold in a rack. How do you do toast on your island?

  • Yes I agree with you Johnny that dressing in layers is the best way to keep warm along with keeping active, it's once you stop that you feel the cold most.

Cold toast - yuck - warm tastes best so that the butter drips through, the marmalade or honey or whatever you put on your toast spreads easily. However, when serving a number of pieces in a rack it is difficult to keep them warm although some establishments cover the rack with a warmed serviette to keep the toast inside warm.

  • It's 6:50am and -24C outside. I just read that last night an elderly man's home caught fire just one street over. He was able to get out and was taken to the hospital. My sister called over yesterday because their furnace stopped, it was down to 11C in the house when my brother in law woke up and knew something wasn't right. My brother and I went over and got it fixed for them.

Hello , raining first thing this morning , then just overcast , still mild - Lincoln image

The lowest temperature where I live was -11 about 8 years ago and lots of snow , which is unusual

    Keep warm Johnny

  • - 11 brrr. that is cold.  Our lowest was -7 which is unusual for Guernsey. It caused our central heating pipes to burst, caused a bit of a mess and had to have a new ceiling and carpet.

Today is dull and overcast too GWRS. No rain, no sun.
