Love sunny day here - strong winds but not biting cold - quite pleasant in fact.
I know exactly what a Ganzi is - although I must admit I don't wear one very often now. Traditionally they were made using oiled wool to keep the fishermen warm and dry, although farmers and in fact most outdoor workers wore them in olden times. Having said that, they were part of my school uniform too. Originally made in a dark blue/black coloured wool, I believe you can now purchase them in various colours. The traditional Ganzi was made by hand but now knitting machines are used although I think the welts and cuffs are still hand made. Each Ganzi would have the parish (county) emblem knitted into them so that if a fisherman was washed overboard - his body could be identified more easily.
I am allergic to wool (makes me itchy) and was able to buy my most recent Ganzi in a cotton yarn.
You will see that most of the Royal family have worn them at various times - often when they visited Guernsey they were given as gifts. Now one of the main importers of our Ganzi is Japan!
Nothing to do with the weather, but I thought that it may be of interest. I think the Queen was also given a cow during one of her visits to the island!
This morning's heavy rain has washed away last night's snow. Now it's just drizzling, and a lot warmer. We're in the middle of the Pennines so generally get any rain that's going...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
We where out last night and it started to freeze , however , must have rained in night , no frost and it is still raining , looks like it is in for the day - Lincoln
