Easy from seed, first year flowering, all have dark leaves, and flowers in: red, orange and vibrant pink. They also form good tubers during the first year.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Yes, I do plan to sow some Bishop's Children punkdoc - are they single flowers as they seem to be the most attractive to bees as I have found with the Bishop of Llandaff this year. Thanks for sharing your pictures wakeshine and Chrissy the Gardener - I love the white star - it reminds me of my hair on a bad day - is it grown from a tuber? I looked at a couple of sites that sell dahlias, (our GC only sells a very small selection of them), on the sites they seem to sell rooted cuttings rather than tubers. Are rooted cuttings reliable?
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction punkdoc and Dove - I will take a look at those sites - I am fairly hooked on Bishop of Llandaff at the moment as they appear to be outshining all my other plants in the long life stakes along with my Roses that are in the second flowering season this year. Good value for money (most of them were presents anyway!). Lovely photos Wakeshine, so glad that you managed to get to Hidcote - looks like it was worth the extra special effort.
It was Guernsey although I nuch preferred Kiftsgate gardens to Hidcote. Hidcote was just so crowded, contrived and not original in comparison. Kiftsgate was just serene beauty, tranquilty and uniqueness. I would go back again and again and will as I want to see the famous Kiftsgate rose (speaking of roses!) - apparently the biggest rose in Britain.
Just taken a look at one of the Kiftsgate sites and those roses are spectacular - mostly climbing up the walls - it must have look lovely in the sunshine. First we need a stately manor wakeshine - then we can grow magnificent roses too.
I know Guernsey, wouldn't be fabulous if had a structure tall enough for the Kiftsgate rose. Actually they had a whole walkway of beautiful old roses...not too much in bloom but I think it is definitely worth going back next season for that. We can until then just dream of these fab roses and dahlias!
Yes, indeed we can and I am now looking through the sites that were mentioned by Punk Doc and Dove - I have spent a fortune (in my mind), but will have to narrow it down according to my allowance (which has just risen dramatically I might add!).

Bishops Children are all single flowered.
Try Rose Cottage plants for Dahlia tubers, I have always found them excellent.

If you like single dahlias (I do and so do the bees) have a look at Honka

gorgeous in the border and as a cut flower.

Amy I bought the dahlias has tubers from my local garden centre.
