Those are fabulous GD2! And yes it's fun to try and identify dahlias. I'm currently trying to identify the ones I've grown from mix supermarket packs....
I've looked a bit on various websites including the National Dahlia Collection, Peter Nyssen and a few other specialist dahlia websites....these are just my hazardous guesses, not scientically blessed
1 - If it was small maybe Gay Mini; if it was bigger maybe Trendy or Summer Festival 2 - Hillcrest Harvest? 3 - Purple Taiheijo or Normandy Wild Willie 4 - Painted Lady? 5 - at first I thought it was Pink Jupiter or Lilac Taratahi but now I think it's Hillcrest Candy 6 - Eden Barbarossa
Just total guesses, some dahlias are so easy to name, like Pooh or Bishops, but some are soooo hard to name.. ..Chrissythegardener, congratulations, those are fabulous - is the small cerise bicoloured one at the front 'Matchmaker'? I have these two growing in my garden at the moment and they looks like yours:
Zenjeff - those are lovely, scientific or not! That one might go on my list for next year too
I think we should dish out awards for all you clever dahlia growers - not an earwig in sight! Such stunning flowers. Well done to you all. I have grown tuber dahlias for the first time this year and have been very pleased with the Bishop of Llandaff & pom pom's. I will certainly be growing more next year - especially the Bishop's as they have attracted plenty of bees.
That's a brilliant Bishop of Llandaff GD2. I definitely want to grow that next year! I had bought one from a chaity shop but it was mislabelled and has cream flowers!
Perhaps yours is a different Bishop - I didn't know until recently that there are various Bishops so perhaps it is a Bishop of York or Durham etc. - someone in the know may be able to enlighten you with a name, wakeshine.
I didn't realise there were so many Bishops either, here's a pic of the mislabelled one I have. I think it's Bishop of Dover as it seem to be the only cream one.....
Here's that giant dahlia I mentioned. The packet had said Noordwijk's Glorie but that's orange. I think this is something else, maybe Kelvin's Floodlight, dinner plate and it literally is like a floodlight...biggest flower head I've seen so far in the garden and I need to measure the diamater
Here it is with some normal bloom sized dahlias and gazanias to give it some perspective although it's not a very good photo:
