Well it's not as windy as Scotland out there - but it is very, very breezy. A warm drying wind as well - all the leaves are going crispy - even the Jap Anemones are shrivelling and wilting. The ground itself is dry at the surface but still a bit damp a couple of inches down so I think it is just the wind doing the damage at the moment.
We've also got cyclamen hed. in flower and I've just picked the first full harvest of autumn fruiting raspberries - have had a few already but this time enough to make a full dessert. The year is ticking by...
Lily P - meant to say earlier - I was so sorry to hear about your poor pooch. Hope it's nothing serious and he can be sorted out soon - understand what you mean when you feel guilty trying to do the right thing for your pet. My cat gives me the saddest, most betrayed looks when I parcel him up for the cattery when we go away.
Fairy - we're not coming as far as you this time. We have 2 weeks. 6 days in The Lakes based in Keswick, 6 days in Northumberland near Hexham (very close to Hadrian's Wall & the 2 best museums) and 3 days very close to Durham.
OH is hoping to do some good walks and photography. I will do some low level walking and immerse myself in history and architecture. Really looking forward to exploring bits of Northumberland we've not been to before. Might have a trip to the SW tip of Scotland if we run out of things to do!
Will be spending several weeks in Scotland in 2018
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Daughter and 2 sons, their French OHs, 6 grandchildren and 2 grand nieces have gone. Very quiet here now. They all have 2 proper meals a day - why are they so slim? We have a snack and a meal and far less in the way of biscuits, bread and booze than them.
Sons helped with cooking, had some BBQs. Daughter and DIL helped with washing up. But I spent quite a lot of time in the kitchen.
Really glad that at last I'd managed to get the pool clean enough for them to swim in. It went dark green when we were away in June. The weather was much better than the forecast had said.
But elder daughter and 3 small sons arrive tomorrow. I must go and make beds again and more shopping to be done tomorrow morning. May be another 3 days before I post here again.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
LillyP; perhaps not seeing the vet is the best. Poor thing doesn't need more stress! If he's happy and alert than I hope it's just a tummy bug. Dogs do seem to be highly effective at clearing themselves out.
Just "harvested" my Swiss chard. I think it was getting out of hand!! That photo is one stalk.
T'bird - not coming this far? I'm 'black affronted' ...
I look forward to your visit in 2018....would you like to visit a hill or two?....
Been to shops - spent £1.50 of my £21.50 worth of Tesco vouchers that I get for being with Eon for utilities. That's only a few month's worth. Brilliant - it's about half my weekly shopping. Don't like Tesco, but - every little helps...
BL - I'm worn out just reading the amount of 'entertaining' you do with family. You deserve a medal! Likewise obelixx- you're always so busy. Will you ever get time to move?
Rain still hasn't appeared so I'm going back out to see what else I can do before dinner. It's 'weird' windy as it's not cold. Mid to high teens which is ideal to graft in
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Even at this early stage we seem to have a fairly tight schedule planned for our 2018 trips. One is a tour incorporating the Orkneys and the other is OH's John O'Groats to Lands End cycle ride.
So probably no time for hills but definitely time for tea and a bun if we're anywhere near your neck of the woods when it all happens
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Thanks Obelixx, but I don't even know what photobucket is.
To be honest, if " the powers that be" see fit to make it impossible for me to post photos , in the old way, I really can't be fagged messing about to do it a new way.
Drinking tea and eating Dutch waffles and thinking about packing. 5am start tomorrow.

BL and obelixx, non-stop work for both of you just now
tiring but pleasurable.

Joyce - thank you for the heads up for Logan RBG. I've saved the information to my 'Holiday' file.
I didn't know about those gardens and there will be a couple of days when I shall be entertaining myself while OH strides across the hills...
BL - you're certainly living up to your moniker at the moment
You snuck in there Fairy
