Gorgeous pics Mrs G. Some beautiful planting schemes (and dare I say paved bits). I don't know if you've peeked in on the Gallery of Shame or if you're aware of Cloggie's George but I'm pretty sure that's him in the second picture having a nice day out!
I'm glad I've found this thread - I went to Tatton on Wednesday and loved it. I posted a couple of photos on the Forkers thread but will put some more on here, tomorrow I think... bed calls...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Some photos from Wednesday at Tatton. I really enjoyed it: much easier to see the show gardens than at Chelsea, with the small, back-to-back gardens particularly interesting - and plenty of plants, seeds and sundries to buy too. Great ice cream as well!
There were gardens designed by the 3 finalists in the "Young Designer of the Year" competition. Former winners include 2 recent creators of Chelsea show gardens, and I liked these very much - especially the third one, by Robin Dwiar:
- lovely design and good plants, but a bit messy;
- lovely pastel colours here, and plenty of space;
- very strong design and fab colour scheme - expect to see him at Chelsea I reckon.
There was another competition in which 3 pairs of young people, a plants person and a landscaper, created a garden to the same ground plan, which had to include the same features (pergola, water feature, green wall etc). The briefs were all different though; we had "Coastal retreat", "Urban glade" and "Cotswold connections". The three gardens all had features to recommend them, and each had a very different feel.
"Cotswold Connections" had an unusual water feature down a wall of roof slates;
"Urban Glade" used a high hedge and smooth copper water feature;
- rusty seats in the "Coastal Retreat" looked great, but would make a mess of your clothes... nice planting though.
Now some of the back-to-back gardens, ideal for giving ideas to mere mortals with small gardens
This was my favourite, I think - called "High Tide 2030", it was showing how you could adapt your seaside garden to changing sea levels. Just gorgeous colours...

I'm certainly not a photographer but thanks. Will have a look at Cloggie George.

I did a search for Tatton and found this, would have missed it otherwise. Thank you for the photos Mrs Garden.

Hmm. Half of my post seems to have disappeared. Might try again later...
