Is other people's wealth inspiring? Especially if such people are 20-30 years ahead of you?
You communicate very well for a 10 year old. You can assure mummy and daddy that my macro lens cost less than two tanks of fuel for the car so a bit of sacrifice makes these things very affordable even if you're a single income household with two young kids.
I've tried to post the frustrating photos as much as the ones I'm happier with and add critique sometimes to show how I'm always trying to improve. Photography isn't easy and small insects can be incredibly hard to take good photos of. I've been taking macro photos with various cameras since the days of film though. I made my first extension tubes out of a toilet roll Maybe I'll start posting more of the failures or tips that might help people who are trying to learn. For every photo I post now you can be assured that there will be a lot that I never show.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Here’s a picture taken on my old Iphone and I think it’s just as lovely as some of the more professional ones on here.
Surely beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally don’t feel any pressure or envy over other people’s camera/photography setup.
My mindset is: this is a thread for wildlife lovers to admire wildlife. I highly doubt anyone on here is thinking, “wow, what despicable peasant took that blurry photo?”
Its a shame when folk's self esteem is so low that they can only feel better about themselves by being snide about other people whose circumstances are totally unknown to them.

I don’t understand it, @Dovefromabove. I’m in my late 20s and I don’t think it’s only a generational problem. I won’t lie and say I’ve never been a little envious of what someone else has, but it gives me incentive to work harder and save. When I finally get what I want, it is very rewarding!
Think it's to do with positivity versus negativity @HalleS ... some folk seem born with glasses half empty and appear to be totally unable to change it. Sad. Anyway, long ago on this board we all decided that we're all 27 ... including me and my daughter @WonkyWomble 🤣
But back to wildlife ... I do love your frog ... do you have a pond?

Nobody should feel intimidated by anyone. Take it as inspiration, not competition.
Indeed. Some phone cameras have excellent clarity. I have a good camera, but it isn't great for close ups, but suits my main hobby better. It's also just a case of tinkering with the photos online to get a sharper image. That helps enormously and is worth doing. I certainly don't feel intimidated by the superb pix that @Papi Jo and @wild edges etc post. I love seeing them. Not sure what you mean by wealth either @algonia. Some phones will be cheaper than my camera, and have excellent clarity as I said earlier. Many people already have them too, so no need to buy anything else. Everyone is welcome to post photos of any type.
This Wildlife thread is a different subject anyway. Insects are wildlife, but rabbits aren't insects...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

On a thread presumably created for all to share a collective love of wildlife on a forum which, for the most part, aspires to be friendly, extremely helpful and 'feelgood', I may be alone in finding this comment bewilderingly poisonous. However, I suspect not. Stunningly presumptious, misguided and very sad.

With guidance here I bought a second hand macro lens on Ebay and my first SLR camera (second hand) locally. A few weeks worth of food shopping, yes, but I love photography and both should last for years. I buy refurbished iphones too - which cost about a quarter of the new price and last for years. Newer cameras (after refurb'd iphone 6) take better pics, but I'm happy to stick with what I have. It works for me. I can send some good links if you would like to investigate.
On gardens, I do sigh over large spaces, meadows, woods and big ponds. I would love a larger garden - but don't envy people - more take it as an inspiration about what can be achieved. I didn't grow up in a family that resented other people's success and achievement. We work and save and set goals - we choose to spend on X instead of Y - fencing instead of a holiday or a fridge instead of a paint job or woodland instead of kids.
Snarky or snide comments aren't helpful, no. I'd like to thank all those that have offered insights on taking better photos.

Anyway, enjoy the frog/toad!

Unless it was an attempt at humour?
If it was an attempt at humour...well...mine must be very different...
