@Fire...I watched that this afternoon, I know they will eat all sorts of creatures, but was very surprised to see a Hoggie take on prey the size of a chick.
@Fire...I was standing on the doorstep last night talking to one of mine, if I had seen the clip yesterday the conversation might have been a bit different.
Well, hogs are omnivores, we know. Badgers predate hogs, hogs predate ground-nesting birds, ground-nesting birds predate frogs and on and on down the food chain. It's how it works.
That feature on toad flies was probably the most gruesome thing I've seen n the Watches; up there with the delights of the parasitic wasp.
Another one shocked at the hedgehog, and sad for the skylarks. I know we shouldn't blame the predator but it's difficult not to. And that toad with the maggots, good God! Nature is horrible at times!
It's always good to remember that 'mother nature' is no kind of fluffy, benign, "skipper through the daisies". She is more like Kali, red in tooth and claw.
Saw a mole on the path near our compost area. Took it into our orchard and released it. Fascinating to watch how quickly it dug into the grass and was soon gone. The black fur (not seen as good on the photo but it was black) was brilliant and the feet with the digging claws...Sorry the photo is blurred, it moved so quickly.

Was quite shocked if I'm honest.
I've only ever seen one above ground and that was at Bempton Cliffs and that was running down a path.
