I did wonder, maybe there is a UK fly with an orange abdomen and dark thorax.
Try the rose sawfly? Not an actual fly though despite the confusing name.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

The strange thing is they very rarely eat the apples off the trees, just the leaves. They love the cidery windfall apples though.

Maybe they don’t want the collywobbles from eating green apples 🍏  ... they know the windfalls are more likely to be ripe 🍎

💡 just dawned on me ... if they’re like sheep and goats they don’t have any upper teeth at the front ... so they won’t be able to bite into hanging fruit ... on the ground the fruit will be easier to eat.

The detail of the wings @Treeface   and the markings are beautiful. Great photo.

The roe deer doe that took up residence next door a couple of months ago when it was very quiet, seems to have decided that as its mating season, she wants to go back. She has been calling for a mate, and then seen a lot near to the road. Trouble is it is now really busy again. The police will only come if there is an accident, and the RSPCA don't want to know until she is injured.  We are hoping she goes back to wherever she came from in the quiet hours of the early morning.
