We’ve been watching a very handsome starling, glossy and speckled, stripping leaves from our rosemary bush and taking them back to his nest in NDN’s roof ...

But I don’t think this is part of the courtship goings on ... nest building took place a good while back .,, I think the nest is probably home to several bugs and mites by now, as the space under the tiles warms up.
If bluetits use aromatics to deter ‘bedbugs’ why not starlings too?
We had a starling making a nest in between the soffit and roof tile. It made an almighty racket and now there's no sign of it :(

I bought a wildlife camera last year when I saw a hedgehog shuffling along the end of our garden. Had the high point a couple of nights ago, the hedgehog was trying to walk and scratch at the same time and fell over :D

Well, the hedgehog falling over was funny, but last night was awesome! It went a little something like this (dialogue presumed).

Unknown Cat: *hears rustling from the gap under the fence and goes to investigate.*
Hedgehog: *crawls out from the gap* "Hey bro." *carries on about its hedgehog business.*
Unknown Cat: *looking bewildered* "The hell?" *spends the next five minutes intermittently checking the gap in case something else comes out.*

Any idea what this is on the fig? I'm assuming some kind of tenting caterpillar.

Hi all, I have spent the last couple of hours reading this thread from post 1.  Amazing photos, great stories of wildlife, really enjoyed it.  I'm in the extreme west of Ireland, its harsh country with an abundance of gulls and migrating birds, but few exotic locals!  Put a small pond in my garden today, to be finished off over the next week or so.  Will have lots of questions!

    Hi @katiem111

We put a small wildlife pond in about 5 weeks ago and is coming along great already.

Well worth the labour for what you gain in return.

Post plenty of pictures and ask as many questions as possible, there's some great help and advice on this forum!

I may even be able to guide to avoid from making mistakes I made along the way!
