Phew! That's the first course and pudding made for tomorrow - the main course is a 'one pot' type dish and a salad so I'll make that tomorrow morning while listening to the Archers. Cheese, fruit and and wine are in the garage fridge and there's some lovely fudge to have with our coffee. I won't tell you what the dishes are 'cos she knows I post on here and may be on a spying mission. I'll tell you afterwards.
In a hot doolally flap the other day, when all my coolest clothes were in the wash, I ordered myself an pure cotton batik kaftan online - it's just arrived - brilliant - so cool and I love it - even if I suspect that I may bear a very slight only passing resemblance to Robert Mugabe
Now I'm going out in the garden i my kaftan to lounge in the shade and read my book SYL
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
He/she looks so sweet Fairy, you're right about the feet they are huge.
Good to hear from you BM. I have made the decision re the trees but it doesn't stop me from being a bit nervous about how it will look. Only 3 days to go and I'll know.
Dove I like the idea of a Kaftan, might be a good idea as wondering around in my nightie/dressing gown might be a bit of a no no when the neighbours can see in the garden.
Have had a lovely day today, spent it either sitting on a sun lounger reading, studying the new Sarah Raven catalogue and deciding which tulips to buy and pottering round the garden deadheading. Perfect.
Hubby's cooking a chicken curry for tonight, hope it's not too hot.
Had a text from Firstborn, they arrived safely in Menorca only to find that the 'bites' on Mabel were in fact chickenpox spots. Haven't had it myself so hoping this snivel really is just a snivel.
Oh Stevie! How awful to get chicken pox on holiday. My friends child is just recovering from it and this heat did not make it fun. Have you not had it yet? Keep up the vitamins and hope the sniffles retreat!
My big sister got engaged today! Haven't spoken to her yet as she's on a holiday. What a lovely way to cheer up a Saturday.
Been to Brighton twice - staying just the one night either end of a trip to Tatton flower show with a former Beeb GW boarder. Needed to do my usual raid on a supermarket as I left and found all the traffic and parking and one ways a bit of a nightmare. much better when that was done and I was driving along the front taking in the view of sea, piers and buildings.
I love kaftans. I made a warm winter one from woven wool fabric, have a thinner cotton one for summer and also couple of short thin lawn cotton ones for hot day schlepping and wearing over a cozzy in the days when we did beach hols with Possum. Still have them just in case.
No gardening today apart from dividing and potting up a clump of short white Michaelmas daisies and some white lychnis coronaria. The forecast was for cloudy but dry and we've had intermittent downpours and thundery stuff all day so I've been oiling chairs and sorting out attics and gathering bedding for packing. Got quite a bit done so not a day wasted grumping at the rain.
Now to do something creative with left over leg of lamb and some rice. North African fruity and spicy maybe.
First to take off the dress I donned when I cleaned up to go to the SM and put on a comfy kaftan to cover my legs. Mozzies and horse flies about and biting.

Yvie, hope Wonky sees your post and stops calling me a wicked mother for sending her to school when she was little with what I thought were cat flea bites ... she was sent straight home again ... with chickenpox She was so young that she didn't get it badly, but got her own back by infecting me and I was really ill, confined to bed with spots in unmentionable places
Love this kaftan and OH says I don't look like Robert Mugabe or Demis Roussos

Many moons ago I went from Poole to Brighton - pillion on the back of a scooter. . . could barely walk the next day.
I fancy a cool kaftan for slobbing around and like the sound of yours Dove.
I'm glad you got out on the hills this morning Fairy before you get into more "stuff" this week.
Daughter has gone back down to Lancs. It was lovely having her but does she talk!!!
Away with some plants, as usual and has booked some for divisions and for me to root cuttings.
As long as you don't look like Demis Roussos Dove.
Mind you ...Mugabe...
...stick with Demis. You'll have to grow a beard though.....
Don't think I'd have much use for a 'cool' kaftan Joyce
Here's one of the little pipits from today. Cute as can be
but they have huge feet...looks tricky perching on the fencing wire

Have done some gardening today, but it's getting hot again.
Dove, I don't think your hair is quite the right colour for Robert Mugabe
I have a lovely Kaftan, but I was 2 stone lighter when I used to wear it
Having a selection of salads with smoked salmon tonight.
Lovely news Clari
