There are a few who knit and/or crochet a patchwork club - since my colleagues and I took over its management it is a ot more relaxed so wealso have embroidery and appliqué and hand as well as machine patch.
We recently had a workshop to make a Longchamp syle bag - the original in leather starts a 450€ - but we did iurs in Boro style patchwork. Needless to say I was a bit different and did a Siddi style patch (folded rather than raw edges). I also added an external zipped pocket.

I watched what must have been a repeat of the Sewing Bee where they were making dresses with old duvet covers! Rather more elaborate than my bunting. But here it is, waiting for summer.
My neighbourhood craft group did the same with old duvet covers (probably inspired by Sewing Bee too). It was a really fun project and many of them are hung up on people's front porch. A good project for kids.
What lovely things you’ve all been working on! I very nearly bought a new duvet cover set in Ikea, heavily reduced, in a very pretty pattern. It would have been great for a summer dress, at a bargain price! Managed to restrain myself, otherwise it would have ended up languishing in my ‘sewing supplies’ box, along with several other projects waiting for me to get round to.
I do find that charity shop or Ebay etc sheets and duvet covers are just about the cheapest source of wide stretches of cloth. One time I got a cotton sheet "bundle" on Ebay - measured by the kilo. Not all of it was useable for bunting, but in 10kg or so there was loads to choose from for the art group. All of it was used for something in the end.
Teenage neighbours made these from duvet covers, from You Tube instruction.
