Thinking about starting a thread about 'FitBits' - anyone got one?? Not being competitive ( honest) but wondered how many 'steps' other people get through - about 20,000 seems to be my average - is that normal??? Perhaps I should try and sit down once in a while.

Hello all. Ive managed to read a few pages, but my eyes keep closing.
re. The Fitbit - I use one and feel rather proud if I reach 6000 steps, but I'll be 76 in a couple of weeks, so that's my excuse. The Garmin one I have makes a red line along the top if I sit too long, to remind me to move. That does prick my conscience, so it works. Difficult when its winter out there and I'm struggling with a tricky knitting pattern and have HRH snoring gently beside me on the lounge chair.
i love parsnips and capsicums (I think that is what people call peppers). With the parsnips, I usually buy the young small ones and they get steamed, like all my veggies, and we love them. I also use them in Pea and Ham soup when I make it. With the red capsicums, we eat them in salads but mostly, Hubby puts them under the griller to burn the skin then peels that away and adds the flesh to tomatoes in pasta dishes. Lovely rich flavour and colour.
Well, I'd better finish off as you're probably all in bed now. I just need to post when I can, because the Internet suddenly gives up without warning every now and then.
The Pedant in me wants to say, muscle does NOT weigh more than fat.
1kg of fat weighs 1kg, 1kg of muscle weighs 1kg. That's the same weight. However , muscle is denser than fat.
I've had virtually no sleep so I'm particularly grumpy this morning.
I'm seeing the hypno guy this morning , but it'll be my last session. I can see no difference in the amount of sleep, the quality of sleep or the frequency of a " decent" night sleep.
DD: good lord DD I'm happy if I can get 13,000 steps! (I'm 31 should anyone be comparing it to Pats step count). My target is 10,000 a day at present building it up gradually so give me a few months I might be catching you up. I find ifs it a paperwork day I struggle.
I use an app on my phone. Brought my brother a fit bit for his birthday so might see if he's liking it and treat myself. I have a jar for treats like that; when you loose a lb you put £10 in the jar... it's very empty!
As for clothes fitting; I can't even claim that victory! Everywhere protrudes as much as it ever has. I might get the tape measure out if I can find it.
Hosta; this sticky hot weather must be the worst time to learn to sleep! Both my partner and I struggled last night and he sleeps like the dead. I hope you reach something positive from today's session.
Looking a bit cloudy but still warm and no rain forecast - not complaining, nice gardening weather and new plants might not get too droopy like yesterday, it was a bit hot for them I think.
I think 10,000 steps is supposed to be a daily goal Clari so if you are getting to 13,000 then that is good. Sometimes I think I do double the steps I need to because I am dipsy, I run upstairs to get one thing, come down with something else I've spotted en-route and then have to go up again. I have a Garmin one and like Pat's it tells you to move after so long, it also increases my daily target based on the previous day, so if I have a busy one the target gets higher, some reward eh! Like the idea of a treat jar though.
Hosta, this sleep thing must be getting you really frustrated, it has been bad for months, no wonder you are grumpy - not saying you are but we'll let you off if you are 'tetchy'.
Right, day starts here, probably won't get to sit down until about midnight so have a good day all.

Hosta i can understand where your coming from, a good night for me is 3-4 hours it can wear you down a bit sometimes. I just pug in my walkman and listen to mike oldfield. Weather not bad not raining and warm, right coffee time and read back.
Have grand plans to plant up all my summer pots, get the cosmos in the ground, and generally empty the GH ready for the tomatoes (which recovered from their dodgy start, and are now looking pretty healthy).
I saw the lady who lives in Columbine Cottage out gardening yesterday, so I stopped the car and went over to talk to her (think that might be slightly eccentric behaviour ). Her aquilegias were also wiped out this year - she thought it was blight, or stray weedkiller from the council verges. But when we compared the symptoms it was clear she was hit by this aquliegia gall midge too. Seems little point in me going round removing buds to "break the cycle" if it is affecting the whole area. Very sad. On a plus point, the lady was lovely, and was very pleased that a random stranger stopped for a chat
Sorry you're not getting anywhere with the sleep issue Hosta. Perhaps being back at work and a different routine will make a difference.
DD - I went to bed so didn't see your last post last night. I'm with Lantana - wash 'em as they are and let him deal with it Mine leave socks in a scrunched up ball, so that's how they get washed. Tough!
I agree re the whole weight thing - go by how your clothes fit. If you're honest with yourself about what you eat and drink, you know which things you consume too much of and what you should really cut down. I work with someone who has been dieting since she was at school. She's older than me (slightly over 27...) and is obsessed by weight. We've all given up trying to get her to abandon the scales and Weightwatchers, and concentrate on eating well and getting fitter.
Anyway - have to go to work, and hopefully walking afterwards, so will catch up later with you all.
Have a great day
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
DD, visitors will find you sleeping among the plants on Sunday .
Hosta, myself and other "oldies" find that listening to the World Service helps us get back to sleep. The equivalent of being read a bed time story perhaps. Though you are not an oldie it could be worth a try.

Clari - Do you feel better for it? Have you measured yourself? Muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space.
