Can anyone join this thread? I followed the May Hello Forkers, but was a bit nervous about posting as a newbie, but it seems such a good way to get to know other, more experienced forumers (if that's a word)
Hello sunshine I'm also new and have found anyone can join in on any thread in any section of the forum, as I have found people are friendly and helpful to new or experienced, you will be fine.. just join in and learn and enjoy.. having said all that I'm still nervous to say too much lol
Hello and welcome Sunshine and poppyred. Luckily I'm nearer Joyce's neck of the woods and we are having some glorious weather for a change.
Chicky I hope you can keep your Dad in good spirits and that he has a speedy recovery.
Dove I'm sure you are really looking forward to getting away for a break. I have noticed on my sleepless nights that first light seems to happen around 4am. That's a very early start.
LilyP how did the cutting back go yesterday? Hope they didn't make a terrible mess of your shrubs and trees.
I'm in West Yorkshire, married with three teenagers, who seem to have suddenly morphed from young things going wild in the wind, to monosyllabic hermits who consume vast quantities of milk, bananas, toast and anything else they can get their hands on. I also have a slightly crazy black labrador, who continues to go a bit wild in the wind. I work full time, but have several days off a week as my shifts are 12 hours long.
My Dad has always been a keen gardener, with an allotment in addition to the family garden, so was involved planting and growing form an early age. When OH and I bought our house twenty years ago it was brand new with a blank canvas garden. We planted a lawn, built a patio and dug some borders, but then the children and a career change came along for me so the garden was a neglected children's playground for many years.
I was seriously ill in 2014 and last spring asked my Dad if he'd help me get the garden sorted as I recovered (OH is very good at the heavy, lanscaping stuff, but has little interest in the planting). He did and my passsion has been reborn. I redug my borders, even adding two new ones to the front garden when I ran out of space to plant things.
We are in the process of revamping the back garden. As I type, OH is preparing to lay a bigger patio to replace our small 20 year old one, to accommodate the growing hermits on the occasions they join us in the garden. The new patio will leave a smaller lawn with some strips that will need removing, making way for bigger borders and more plants, yay . We're also planning a pergola and a raised bed to grow veg (having grown potatoes, tomatoes and courgettes successfully last year in bags and grow bags, I want to branch out a bit - though its a shame I won't be able to grow bananas to keep the hermits happy).

Hello, Sunshine and welcome. You may be the only bit of sunshine we get today. Tell us a bit about yourself and your garden.
