Thanks for the welcome home folks  image   ..... thing is, I had a bit of a sore throat at the beginning of the holiday - I took some soluble Solpadeine and it  went away, but then a couple of days ago I found I had an occasional dry cough ... this afternoon I have a headache and a drippy nose (plus coughing and sneezing)  image  OH has administered paracetamol

On the bright side, our neighbour has been a reliable waterer and all plants seem well (we have some special Cornish sweeties for her).  However, she didn't take up my offer of helping herself to the broad beans, so I've picked loads for supper - I'll make a creamy parsley sauce and we'll have them with lamb steaks and Cornish new potatoes.

The garden is looking lovely, if a bit dishevelled - lots of native foxgloves and white Hesperis matronalis flollopping around on the Shady Bank (and in the veg patch image) and the only bit of damage is a broken sweet corn stalk - it looks as if a wood pigeon has sat on it image

Frogs are basking around the pond and the thrush that I used to hear singing in the distance seems to have extended his territory and has been singing very close by here today.

    Afternoon all.

Stopped for a bit of lunch then off to collect some free water lilies from freecycle.

Lily, the knee is much improved thanks. I saw the surgeon on Tuesday and he's more than happy with the recovery. Onwards and upwards.

Evening Pat. How's the weather with you?

    Devon.

Ooh, free plants, Hosta!  How lovely... and your lake is big enough for plants which others have found too invasive.  I've learnt the hard way to be very careful when accepting other people's cast-off plants; I'm now removing suckers of Rubus cockburnianus 'Golden Fern' from my lawn.  Beautiful plant, too big for my available space...  same goes for Humulus lupulus 'Aureus', the golden hop.  It's everywhere...

Welcome back, Dove!  Glad the cold symptoms waited until after your holiday to strike fully.

Persistent drizzle today... but the veg are growing like mad (as is the lawn image)

Time to do some mending, whilst listening to the cricket.  image

Some loud cracks of thunder half an hour ago so I dashed out and got two loads of washing back in - most of it was dry.  Now we have some 'summer rain' - large drops well spaced out but making a nice noise on the terrace and in the pond.

Well I've just put the heating on for an hour, it's so coldimage.

Glad you had a good holiday Dove but sorry you're back with the sniffles. I wonder if Lizzie's strawberry tea has escaped the rainimage.  Hope all goes well for your open day DD.

Have a good gardens trip Yvie and remember to take plenty of pics to show us.  Enjoy your trip too Topbirdimage.

    Nice plant Dew dropsimage

Not overly warm here either Lesley - but ideal for getting the pickaxe out  here. I was meant to be planting the rest of the sweet peas in a big pot and finishing planting the rest of the 'window box' on the back fence, but  I've been digging concrete-y ground again....image

Hope I've not given you that horrible thing I had Dove. Only just got rid of it  image

We've had a light 'smirr' on and off this afternoon. That's a great word isn't it! image

The proper rain is meant to be tomorrow. Should go and put some weed and feed on the front grass. Only a little needed so it would make sense, but I'm weary. Or lazy. Not sure which.

Could do with some dinner.  Forgot to take salmon out the freezer so may have to try and find some leftovers. Hopeless mare image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Phew !  Thats all my summer pots plantedimage. Doesn't take Monty all day to do his, but by the time I had collected all the ingredients, emptied said pots of tulips, faffed about a bit, squashed some asparagus beetles, faffed about a bit more ....it was the end of the day alreadyimage

And now the nightly watering ritual begins - i actually quite like doing it when I get home from work - sort of mindless and relaxing at the same time.

So pleased to hear that knee is s doing well Hosta .....we will be expecting highland jigs very soon...maybe obelixx can teach you a few stepsimage

Evening all. Phew, Strawberry Tea over and most of the stuff is put away. It didn't rain! Sun actually made an appearance!image DD and her friends came, think we were about 44 people. I had a good set of helpers.

Tomorrow we will be going to see DD's garden, then another friend and staying on for his birthday party.

Welcome back Dove. Glad you had a good time. I hope you have a good Cotswold holiday, Topbird. I loved Hidcote.

Congratulations, Lizzie!  Glad the rain held off for you and there was a good turnout - best wishes to DD too, for tomorrow's open garden.

The hills have disappeared here as the mist has descended into the valley.  A good evening to watch telly I think.  image
