Topbird - you must visit Kiftsgate - it is beautiful, in a frothy sort of way (whereas Hidcote is much more controlled) .......I enjoyed them both (probably Kiftsgate more), and wonderful to have such a contrast on the same day. You might also get to see the eponymous rose in flower .....it covers about 6 huge trees......Enjoy
Yvie too - have a wonderful garden visit in Kent and Sussex. You are visiting some gems. If you find time on the way home (you'll need room in the boot) then seek out Marchants nursery - best selection of plants I've ever come across, plus a lovely display garden to boot.
Today is summer pots day. I've also started using the Secret Garden Club - great plants and amazing prices ....so have some lythrum and some campanula to get in the ground.
Warm, damp and midgey here this morning. I've decided to order the Avon product recommended on this forum as an alternative to DEET, which works to keep (most of) the midges at bay but stinks to high heaven. It also does strange things to plastic; the plastic bits of my glasses which go over my ears have gone a bit bobbly. Midges love ears...
OH is doing a month's paid employment on the local steam railway, on which he usually volunteers. He's had a week and thoroughly enjoyed himself - and I've enjoyed it too, with plenty of time for gardening without having to stop to make lunch.
Fingers crossed for your strawberry tea, Lizzie.
Have a great day folks!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Morning all/afties Pat. Had a bit of a lie in... I have been awake though
We have had rain - hurrah! I swear the grass looks better already. I think some of the plants have heaved a sigh of relief. T'bird - I always think it's strange if anyone in the west of Scotland HAS a water butt!
What a shame the weather's poor BL - I hope it brightens up for you all over there. Makes these events so much more enjoyable for everyone, especially after all the hard work you put in.
Hosta - we need details of what you said to the 'parasite' yesterday. Spare no details please
Welcome dewdrops. I had one of those cold/cough things recently - lasted for weeks and knocked me for six. Hope you don't have it for too long.
I'll have a quick look round now to see what you've all been up to already today, or last night when I was asleep
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Fairy, All I said was " you wouldn't just be a shameless freeloader trying to drum up business without paying for an advert"
Hardly an insult, merely asking a question.
His post has gone now, so either he's seen better of it , or the powers that be agree with me.
Hey ho, Methinks he "need to grow a pair" if he's going to survive in business.
Fairy, re Scots having water butts. When I moved to Hampshire, I was amazed at how many kids owned sledges given how rarely it snows there. In Scotland we had regular snow, but used tea trays and the like. No fancy Toboggans for us.
Fairy, my soil is dry already so I hope you have been luckier. At least it's a lot cooler. I'll need to go and water some of the newly planted bedding.
Hello folks We're home We've had a brilliant holiday including a fab overnight stay with Hosta and his lovely OH who cooked us two fabulous meals. Hosta's made lots of changes to his garden and no, he's not moved the rock yet ... I think he needs to get a rugby team in to move it for him
I'll tell you more later ....... hope everyone's ok ... I need to get out there and see to the tomato plants
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hi Dove - glad you had a good holiday. I did wave my wand for good weather for you...
Cloud's right down here Joyce so everything is still damp. Supposed to clear up later, but doesn't look like it just now. It saves me watering! Hopefully, the ground where I need to put a new fence post in will be easier to dig out too

Drat. Why no bold when I pressed B?
Ah. Got it to work with "control" & "b" on keyboard.
Topbird & Yvie, those trips sound amazing! Photos please...

You should just have cut to the chase Hosta....
I believe black bin bags are also popular as a sledge. How very common...
