Got results back, bracken's got Lymphatic Leukaemia. He can be treated with Chemotherapy in tablet form and steroids. The vet's wouldn't have it until Tuesday so they said we could get it from a pharmacy in town, tried Saintsbury's,did'nt have it.Tried boots said it would take 10 days.Tried Rowland's they said Tuesday so we went for that because we have to go a long way to the vets. They have to be given both together. He is 12 and a half years old so it will give him another year and there's not a lot of side effects. He has picked up a bit these last few days.I'll let you know how things go.
I didnt know Sainsbury and Boots sold animal pharms? My vet is nearly 40 miles each way. My last dog but one, (I always have 2 together) a blue Border collie, I took the 3 of them for a walk one day, let them out of the estate at Ashdown Forest, Merl keeled over like a log I thought she was dead! wondered how on earth I would get her back to the car, she stood up walked back to the car - something she had never done before, had a job to get in I drove straight to the Vets, it was about 8 miles from where we used to live. They did a visual said her gums were pure white, she was bleeding, scan and x-ray, asked if I wanted to see them, said I couldnt see any internal organs! They said her abdomal cavity was full of blood, her spleen showed a tumour, they just suddenly rupture, they said she would bleed to death within the hour, could atempt to operate, BUT secondaries on her liver, so we had her put to sleep ,she was 12,they said it was very unlikely she would survive surgery she was so ill, I cried and cried.
It's a human drug called leukaran. There's one that's used for arthritis in dogs.Sorry about your border collie,i it's very upsetting when they go like that. Moss had a tumour on his liver, one day he wouldn't get up and not eating. So we took him to the vet, took an x-ray,he didn't have to sedate him.He was bleeding internally,so we had him put to sleep. He was the 4th one of our dogs, when he was going his lungs didn't empty like the other's,it was if he was still breathing,it was very upsetting. It was only 12 days after we had one of our others put to sleep with kidney failure. He was 13 had large testes, had them removed, didn't know he was in the first stage of kidney failure when he woke up he was very weak couldn't stand very well, had his kidneys flushed out but didn't make any difference,so we had to have him put to sleep. The vet said he was a strong willed dog.I still get upset about it and it's 5 years ago.
6 cats, though one is strickly my daughters. Isabel, Edmund, Molly, Alan, Alex, and little blind black kitten Luna.
We also have a large fluffy ginger visitor who was a stray and we kept him alive for a few years, then someone supposedly took him in. He now has a collar, but spends most of his time here anyway.
Over the years we've had 14 cats in total, some rescued, some wandered in for a meal and stayed.

Meant to say it's less aggressive, less common.
