Thanks Patsy. He's a rescue who has been with us since January. I've posted his 'story' earlier in the thread. I'm not sure where we came up with the name but it seems to suit him and people like it.

Those Cocker Spaniels are definitely energetic chaps and great working dogs. Super intelligent too!

I have Seamus the hairy lurcher and Lobey Dosser the cat. Seamus pretends he doesn't like cats but here he is having his foot cuddled by one. When i take Seamus out for his walk Lobey comes too. Seamus is the bravest lurcher in history. He will call out for a fight to big scarey dogs, cows, horses etc as long as he is behind a fence, in the car, on the other side of the river of on a different train platform. The cat mimics much of Seamo's behaviour and he also squares up to the cows behind the fence as well now. At least the cat will genuinely have a go and has done in a few rats and mice. He earns his keep by keeping the rodent population down

    OOOft. They look great together.image

I've seen cats follow their owner when walking the dog.

Oooft - I always fancied having a greyhound or lurcher when I retire, but have discounted this now I have two cats (kittens). Lovely to see that cats and lurchers can live together - or are yours extra special?

Hi Aunty Rach. I don't think mine are extra special. When you are ready contact lurcher link or one of the many greyhound rescues and they will match you up with a dog that won't chew your lovely cats. Greyhounds are basically giant cats anyway, moving from bed to bed and sleeping all day

Well they look extra special oooft. I have some contacts already for both rescue lurchers/greyhounds and retired greyhounds (although they may not be suitable for obvious reasons!)

My sister's brother-in-law (or: my brother-in-law's brother...) have a rescue lurcher and rescue whippet and one day his family found an abandoned kitten... they decided it was too risky to keep it but my sister adopted it so it all worked out. Our extended family share pet-sitting duties but it's like that puzzle with the fox, the grain and the chicken!

We had a retired grey, 3 cats and a ferret and they all got on great. Just depends on the beasts. Pointy dogs are the best. Lots of people i know share their sofas with both pointies and moggies. One day that'll be you

  • When I met my second Hubby he had a pretty little dog, said she hated cats, I said if you come and live with me she cant, well, they got one fine from day one, will get my daughter (one day haha!!) to show me how to put pics on here, mind they are actual photos, of my 2 cats sleeping on the sofa with his dog, BUT as soon as you came into the room she would growl and get off, as if to say "No, I wasnt sleeping with the enemy" I always had cats and dogs, the dogs were puppies, cats rescued, but I always checked they were OK with dogs.  Had one funny incident my oldest daughter lived in a flat, where the woman downstairs would go away several days leaving the cat (bagpuss) so in the end she told her she was having him.  Then she moved into a new 2nd floor flat, no pets, asked if I could take him, we did for 3 years. Told the kids keep him away from my 2 dogs, one day my youngest son let him out of the room, I prepared for battle, nothing happened! Then my daughter "very kindly" shared the information, the woman also had a german shepherd! Its her birthday on Sunday, I have knitted her an identical "baggy", he was 17 when he was put to sleep, he was her soulmate. Lunas histology came back, it was a papiloma, thankfully!

  • Hi Patsy, found Fonrtline   stopped working years ago, but my daughter previous owner of bagpuss says they work if you religiously make sure you use them on the exact day of the month, she left it a week once, late, and had a HUGE infestation of fleas, but she lives in London, her cats dont go out much, maybe she is lucky! I use Advocate for the dogs, and used it for the cats, technically Drontal wormer, but my little dog Leo wouldnt touch it last time! one cat would swallow it, and Charlotte my half persian would hack it back up!

  • Some folk (none that I know )swear by garlic but then I understand garlic and onions are poisonous to dogs.
