William Morris's structure that we should "...have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." is contravened. This doesn't work and looks terrible. The earlier one worked, and looked OK.
Best to give them a few days to see if they can fix it and make it acceptable to the 50% of us (Daniel's figure) that don't use mobile phones to access the forum.
I can see the need to make it phone friendly - we're about to launch a new look website for our dance club that allows that - but no need to destroy it for users of PCs and laptops and so on. Speaking for myself, I do as little as possible on my mobile phone as it is so small and fiddly even with a full keyboard and I never take it out in the garden with me. If I need to research something I go to the PC or a book. Bit old fashioned?
Wait and see a bit before jumping ship and breaking up this community of people and all their collective knowledge.

Not impressed
Epic FAIL. There was really nothing bad about the old layout, it was the way the site behaved that wanted fixing.
I'm all for judicious use of white space, but this is way over the top. Is the designer a Guardian reader by any chance?
Just bin it, GW.
hi all above my views are the same as all why change one time you could go and read all now you have to jump around as most say go back to old format

Time for a mass exodus?
There are several excellent gardening forums (a couple offshoots from the BBC) that are friendly and don't have silly formats.

Agree Philippa.
I only use via a desk top, so am more than a bit peeved.
Alienating at least half of your users, does not seem sensible. I don't expect potential advertisers will be to impressed either.

Meant to add, that I also agree with Obelixx, so will persist, BUT, we must see changes soon.
