Rather overcast here LilyP but no mist. I hope it brightens up later too. Pat I'm glad your neighbour is back home. The dog will be pleased too.
When I was out with the dog this morning I saw a crow chasing a fledgling starling and just about had it by the tail feathers. I shouted and clapped which distracted the crow and a mob of starlings chased it away. I didn't know a crow would take a bird out of the air. RB is 'your' magpie still hanging around waiting for you to give in and feed it
Good morning all OH is in the garden already following detailed instructions re preparing site for amelanchier and other plants - I'm not allowed to lift anything or do anything much as all the driving I've been doing has done 'something' to my neck/shoulder - it's happened before and rest and Deep Heat will sort it out, but as OH doesn't drive we're dependent on me to get us to our holiday destination so I'm being treated like porcelain
I am allowed to roast a lovely big chicken from the farm shop, and hang washing out ... apparently
I've not really had time to do much reading back, but am sending hugs to all who need them ((hugs))
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all. Home now after spending a great deal of time in mobile car parks yesterday. Had a fabulous day on Friday visiting Beth Chatto's garden and then Flatford Mill. Photos of harden will follow but OH got quite excited about plants and combinations. A first.
Yesterday we had to go from Colchester to Dover via West Ealing because OH forgot my haul of Chelsea goodies - plant lists, catalogues, seeds, lily bulbs - when he packed the heavy metal into the car (peony supports and a crane sculpture. M25 solid in places, west and south London solid, M25 fairly solid when we joined it again and then the motorway down to Dover became a lorry park for the last 10 miles creeping along at walking pace at best.
5 and a half hours! Should take 3. Ferry delayed because of all the revolting French but apparently the NF had been in Dover all day and they'd caused disruptions. Then there was a "medical emergency" so all engines stopped while we waited for an ambulance......... No bovver at all in France and hardly any traffic. Finally home at 11:45pm having left Colchester at 8:45.
Today is grey and a bit drismal. There's a big pony games competition at the riding school and farm over teh road so the dogs are barking a lot. I have to go and buy ice cream because Possum has eaten it all and then I shall get to the lily bulbs and then all the photos from Chelsea, Hyde Hall and Beth Chatto.
WW - that carex Ice Dance makes great ground cover and will spread slowly or quickly depending on how happy it is. I have mine in dappled shade in my woodland corner and it's doing well against the nettles invading from the field behind.
Hugs to all who need them and happy gardening to those who can today.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Just one more cuppa, and then i WILL get up and going
feels fresher out there today, so I will get some gardening done. Yesterday was too hot to do anything much other than sit, and murmur words of encouragement to OH. He is building an extension/lean to on our garage so that we can store logs a bit closer to the house (we currently have to trek down the garden in the dark and the rain to replenish stocks, so this will be so much better). However, we live on quite a steep slope, so the lean-to has required a brick retaining wall, a concrete base and a complicated wooden structure (OH never does things by halves). Nearly done now
look after that neck Dove - and pics of the amelanchier in situ please. Hope Hosta is enjoying his first day back at work - lots of catching up to do. BBQ at GSs sounds lovely RB - hope he hosts well. And mammoth journey home Obelixx ....thats why we try to avoid the roads on Bank Holidays....nightmare.
Unfortunately we had no choice, given Chelsea dates, and we assumed everyone would be on the roads on Friday evening. The stuff in London was normal Saturday traffic and roadworks. How do people live with that?
Log store sounds good. We were in an Oxfam shop On Friday and I picked up a DR Hessayon book on DIY garden structures which is going to come in very handy for just that kind of thing.........
