Is there any better foliage ?

is there any better spring foliage than that on astilbes?  Right now I have large copper/ red bushes accentuating yellow grasses and perennials and out showing most everything else.  I think their foliage right now is more showy than their flowers.  image

(I have an almost black astilbe among yellow grasses too ....who needs flowers?

    I have copper/red astilbes beside a lime-green leaved philadephus  lovely contrast.

    My astilbe was a deep red

    Its fading to green as it emerges past the tellima

    it's not just the lovely foliage, it's the promise of things to come which makes it so much the better don't you think?

    I just googled Astilbe Shogun Verdun  - another one for the very long wishlist. Does the foliage stay that colour?
