That looks great Bristol86. I am very envious of how good your border log roll looks as well. Did you secure it with the stakes or pins? I used some of the short log roll for my front beds but am not very happy with it as I attempted to use stakes and they were so hard to get in to the ground that I couldn't use too many of them. Plus I think I made a mistake using the shorter log roll as they aren't very securely in and wobble when I dig to add a plant.

Like you it's our first garden as we moved from a flat and I've still got lots to learn. I definitely agree on the hard work front. Every time I've attempted to make a new flowerbed I've quickly been reminded of how back breaking it is. Your photo shows it was definitely worth your efforts though and it's going to look great once it's established.

What a transformation! Both front and back ! Well done, and yes gardening is hard work isn't it? But very rewarding.

Lucid, these log rolls are from Homebase, they have a stake on each end of each piece. The stakes aren't very long so they do wobble a little, I just tried to firm in as much as possible with soil. Our soil is quite heavy and clay-ey so I think that helps firm it in a touch. It's definitely not perfect, there are some spots where the position of the stake is hitting a piece of buried concrete so it's not all that secure, but it does the job image

Sorry to hear about the problems you've had aym280! We are the last but one house in a dead-end road, so luckily you don't get much 'through traffic' on foot, other than dog walkers as there's a big park/green at the end of the street.

We had a couple of box hedge balls in containers for the last 10 months that everyone told us would be stolen within a month, and they remained unscathed, so hopefully we will be ok! image
