Shrub border done :-)

BRISTOL86BRISTOL86 Posts: 78
Thought I'd share the fruits of my labours today - 9 hours of solid work and a ridiculous amount of money later, the shrub border at the front of the house is done! Here is the before and after shots - before is when we moved in 11 months ago

And also did a bit more planting and potting in the back

It's only a little back garden but slowly we're turning it into our own little 'happy place' image will be so nice this summer to have a place to sit and relax and enjoy!

A few bits were already planted but we now have:

    Top bed

Aucuba japonica, choisya substance, aucuba again

    Side bed

Ligustrum, lonerica (I think), berberis nana, pieris, periwinkles under the holly bush, hebes/conifers

    Front bed

Euonymus emerald gaiety / escallonia little Elle / euonymus silver queen
  • Wow Bristol - you have done an amazing job - a garden to be proud of and to enjoy spending time in. A job well done - don't count the cost just enjoy your time relaxing in it.

Thanks Guernsey - I can't take credit for deck construction or turfing as I got someone in to do that, but all of the remaining donkey work was done by me, ie removal of tree stumps, digging beds etc!

It's our first house and 11 months ago I knew zero about gardening - what I know now is that it's harder physical work than I could ever possibly imagine! I am a reasonably fit guy but this is literally the hardest work I've done in my life!!
  • But worth the effort when you see the result Bristol - I would imagine what you have done in the garden will add value to the house if you sold it. Yes gardening is hard work but far better for you than going to a gym - you have something worthwhile to show for your efforts & extended your knowledge too.

Very true! If not added value then certainly added kerb appeal image
