Hmmm i think i will take them back, point out the error on the label, and get something much tougher. Its an open windy, sunny garden, and grasses seem to do well here.
I suppose i should think ...you never stop learning, but im sort of thinking i never stop making mistakes!
As my original post popped up again I thought I'd update as to how I got on this year in the end - I complained to T&M about how the 3 plugs I'd had had shown very little growth last summer and had died over winter....fair play to them, they replaced them all! I notice their website now makes reference to the fact they aren't hardy which it didn't when I bought them.
So the 3 new ones arrived at a similar time to the ones last year but a bit healthier looking, I potted them up, they grew ever so well as they were much better quality than the first lot and maybe we had a good year for them?! I've recently potted them all on into larger pots and 2 of them have pretty seed heads on and the colours are beautiful. I also saw some large specimens in B&Q the other week with no mention of not lasting the winter and thought £8.99 for a plant for the next 6 weeks.....I've learned my lesson but I bet others will be caught out like I was :-(
They really are the most gorgeous colour and even my Mum was surprised how well they'd grown compared to last years plugs. So....I really really want to try and make them last the winter. I'm going to try bringing them in as house plants and let them sit in my cooler utility room which is North facing. I'm guessing anywhere else in the house might be too warm? I have a South facing spare bedroom I could try one in too. Maybe I'll put one in each and see what happens!? My Mum's unheated greenhouse will be too cold I think.
They're in 30cm plastic pots so I can just about find space to put them indoors and they aren't heavy to move about.....just hope I don't bring in any creepy crawlies with them! I may keep them in quarantine in the utility sink area for a week just to be sure they've all hopped out of the pot ;-)
I'm wondering if I may need to bring in the Volcano small tree fern too...at this rate my husband isn't going to be too impressed with me bringing the garden indoors for the winter :-)

Christopher Lloyd, was very fond of them, and kept them in a heated greenhouse over winter. He still reckoned he lost over 50% each year.
