pleasantly surprised this year with quality of some of the mpc's.  Wyevale own brand is excellent.  image

I used a friend's B & Q compost  but not impressed.   last year's so not sure if they have improved theirs.

is this view shared?  Are composts getting better?image

I have just started on my Wyvale compost, looks nice, smells nice, my tomato plants are dying. Never had any problems before, pricked out seeds don't seem to be coming on as well as usual. Time will tell, but I think I will go back to my Erin Malloy.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • I've given up with mpc - I use Levington's with JI tho' for all my repotting - I like it - I've not come across any junk and I've gone through 3 bags since the beginning of the year ........

I did buy a bag of mpc from Asda image thinking I'd give it a go (and I was too lazy to go on to the GC)  It was not composted and I hate to think what I had my hands in image

Wickes own brand compost is excellent this year.  It always was good but they changed the formula a couple of years ago which got some bad reviews but it's lovely black crumbly stuff again this year. No rubbish found in the 3 bags I've used so far. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

did buy B&Q stuff a few years ago , not impressed at all not bought any again

Don't buy seed compost , just sieve ordinary stuff and add some perlite has worked OK in past image

Totally agree with Wicks MP compost. It always seems to provide an above average compost that does what it should do. On offer for 4 X 70 litre bags for ??15

so quite a hood far gain at present
