House martins have arrived today and are busy refurbishing the nests under the eaves. From one of the bedroom windows we can watch their comings and goings from a matter of inches - wonderful! I am so excited.
Have just spent a lovely evening outside in the yard watching 6 swallows going in and out of our barns. Nearly got torpedoed when I went into one of them to get the chickens corn! They are such amazing fliers. Saw the first ones here in Ceredigion on 14th April.
Have a pair of Canada geese nesting on the small island on our lake and they have been strolling round the fields with their 6 fluffy little ones for the past week.......spring at last after a long wet winter
Our resident house martins reappeared in the first week of May - in Surrey. There seems to be 3 squabbling over the nest so not sure what's going on. Fun to watch though.
On Friday morning I freed a swallow trapped in the ladies' toilets at Achnacroish on the Isle of Lismore, in western Scotland. Goodness knows how it got in... but it seemed none the worse for its adventure!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
House martins returned yesterday (24th April) which seems a bit foolhardy, given the weather forecast! But that's nearly a week earlier than last year, and I am so pleased to see them again.

House martins, just spotted some in sunny crewe
I saw some House Martins in North Devon yesterday.
I saw the first Swifts of the year last night here in Nottingham. There is something so joyful about watching swooping around in the late evening sun.

Here in Chelmsford we usually see the swifts in the middle of April but we haven't seen them yet
