OH works from home, and so do I now with private work that is flexible hrs

After several yrs of illness, I bought Flynn for him to have company and lift his spirits, he would definitely have preferred a cat but I'm allergic so I took a gamble and it paid off

they are made for each other and Flynn even is cat-sized for plenty of bedtime cuddles image

If you get one like mine (big vicious German Shepherd well know for his needs for cuddles, holding paws when you're watching television, and being fed dinner from a spoon because actually eating it from a bowl like a proper dog is beneath him) you'll find they end up mostly sleeping all day until both of you are at home when he realises its worth while to wake up and grace us with his presence!

Flynn will only eat from his bowl at breakfast time. We have to hand feed his afternoon food because he likes to feel included in the family meal image

ha this thread makes me giggle.... all this talk of hand feeding dogs ETC, reminds me of the Queens dogs that have bottled water...

My dog and two cats love being in the garden with regularly "help out"image

I enjoy the 30 mins of peace once the kids are in bed and I can sit down and watch probably the only TV of the week I see that is aimed people older than 5! Although I don't watch for the dogs, it doesn't feel complete until I have seen them...sad I know. image

I love to see Nigel and Nell with Monty in the garden; doesn't distract from the programme at all. We have no dogs, but a lazy cat who loves to spend time with us in the garden. Sometimes he just lounges on a warm flagstone, other times he pounces from behind bushes and plays like a kitten again. If one of us is in the front garden and one in the back garden he will split his time between us, wandering up and down the adjoining path from time to time to grace us both with his presence!

Dogs like it if you talk to them, but they don't mind if you have a quiet day.  They give you company on the days you don't want to see people.  You can tell them all your troubles and innermost thoughts and they will never tell anyone.  Dogs give you a reason to get out of bed in the morning, but they don't mind if you go back to bed, as long as they can do the same image

I've had dogs all my life ... until now ... OH gets a wheezy chest if he lives for any length of time with a dog ... it's such a shame 'cos he loves them too ... so we borrow other people's image

We know all the dogs who go for walks past our house, and Charlie the Basset can be mine if I give his owner my car image

OH has special doggie friends who go to see him at the farm shop.

I've had labradors,  terriers, springer spaniels,  a dachshund x (although nominally that one belonged to Wonky) and a lab x German Shepherd.

If I was on my own all day I'd definitely have a dog - someone other than myself to talk to image
