RSPB suggest nightingales turn up in the south east in mid-april. The weather has been so odd, you never know. I defo. know when they turn up, it's an absolute delight to hear them, out of this world.
It seems that the colouring of several birds (presumably males) have become much brighter. We have quite a lot of Goldfinches and some are noticeably brighter yellow than others. Even some sparrows seem to have blacker heads than normal! Mags
We have been commenting that the birds have been singing for quite a while now - despite the earlier cold weather this month. Now, it's become quite a cacophony. On early riser (5 a.m.) seems to favour the crab apple tree which is right outside the bedroom window...thank goodness we are retired and don't have to get up at 6 a.m. any more! Our blackbirds and thrushes are also all back in competition at dusk - lovely.
B3 - more likely to be a starling - they're good mimics
Lovely to have a song thrush or a nightingale 8000wf. We don't get either of those up here.
Loads of dunnocks though. If you can see them closely enough, take a look at their legs - they're quite pinky red. They also have little black lines/dashes in a patch along their wings which are quite distinctive too.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

We have a bird in our garden,I assume it's a blackbird, that copies the ringtone on my phone.
Hi again all.
I think we have a song thrush and a nightingale, which is confusing things/me.
But wonderfully so!
Apparently we have nightingales on our local commons, so if one is stopping by our garden I'm very happy!
The geese have been over already so just waiting for the house martins now...!
Cheers.

You're right fairy. A small flock - or murmuration even - roosts nearby
Thanks FairyGirl, I think I've seen a dunnock before, I'll keep a lookout.
