Hebes will be fine in the sunny area. Osmanthus and Sarcococca for shade. Azaleas, Rhodies, Skimmias and Camellias need to be in soil that isn't alkaline, so as long as you have neutral to acid soil, they'll be fine. Mahonias are very useful - they'll take sun and shade, and Euonymous will grow in most situations.
Add bulbs among your evergreens for extra colour through the winter into spring - most of the usual suspects are fine in shady situations, apart from the bigger, fancier tulips which flower in later spring.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks Lou, I do like plants that give a really nice scent.
Landlubber, there are some nice Hebe's out there, I will be having a good look.
Fairygirl, thank you for the list of plants on there, there are some really nice ones there, will things like snowdrops, daffodils, the normal plan tulips, crocus, Grape hyacinth and the normal hyacinth work in the shade area, also is there summer flowering bulbs that will do well in shade, thank you for your help.
I have a patch of lily of the valley and have giant lilies every year in my shaded patch. I was going to try Fritillaria camschatcensis (Black Sarana) last year but never got around to it. It's still on the list to get
Hi Lorna, crocus don't open in shade, or on cloudy days. I think tulips might not either but I don't have much experience of tulips. snowdrops and daffs are fine
Sophie, I have lily of the valley aswell, I thought lilies had to be in sun, do the flower well in shade, Never heard of Fritillaria camschatcensis, just looked it up and it is quiet nice, I'm surprised how many lovely flowering plants there are for shade, just hope I can get them over here.
Thanks for the info nut, snowdrops and more daffs are on my list now. Are there any summer perennials that will flower in shade. I know I might be asking for to much.
I have oriental lilies in the sun but they seem to hate a bit of shade. I have giant Himalayan lilies that grow in my shady corner, I was told they can get as tall as 12/13 ft but I've never had one much taller that 8/9ft
Crocus like some sun so a few hours a day would be fine. I have a lot in semi shade and they open up when it's sunny, although we don't get a lot of sun at the time of year they're out. As nut says, daffs, narcissus and snowdrops are fine for shadier areas as are Grape hyacinths and lily of the valley. Hyacinths might need more sun - I don't grow them. You could also try the wood anemones and Chionodoxa
Lilies are quite happy with a bit of shade but I can't think of any other summer ones I'm afraid. You could have a selection of alliums for the sunny area though

Lots of perennials. I have a lot of shade and have tried many. Aquilegias, several hardy geraniums, campanulas, digitalis, corydalis, I'll try and think of a few more if nobody else does
I have never seen anyone selling Himalayan lilies over here, think a bit of online shopping is in order, they are lovely.
Thanks Fairygirl, feel a bit of a spending spree coming on, I did order quiet a few alliums this year so should have plenty of them now , I want to get the shaded area with as many flowers as I can, thank you for all the info. Hopefully I can make it look nice.
