Does he still have long plaited hair? Haven't seen him for years!

I'm glad i'm not the only one who falls asleep during GW, always have to watch a repeat to see what I missed, but then I always fall asleep during programmes that don't have a lot of action!

    Yep he does Floralies image

Hostafan I have a hedgehog, I saw it the other day and there is a nest under the ferns. Those funny little flat nests they have - so sweet. I have large log piles all over and there are loads of frogs in there and blackbirds aplenty.

My cats seem to ignore the birds - too much like hard work and they just get the rodents. So we'll see. I'll plant some in summer and see what happens.

  • I really enjoyed the clematis segment, it could easily have been twice as long. I felt as if I'd learnt something at the end of it.

I'd really like to see a proper aerial shot of Long Meadow, even though I saw the layout in the magazine I really struggle to picture it.

Yes  - he lives not far from here and we use the same supermarket.  Not sure if he'd be available for regular GW - his wife has been very ill and he spends a lot of time with her and their young twins.

I think he's great on GQT but not sure that he'd be right for GW full-time.

He used to be a regular on GW with GH but AT couldn't cope with the tyres and  fridges.    Great for advice on fruit and veggies but short on aesthetics I fear.

Sorry to learn his wife is ill.  I hope she recovers.

  • I like GW enormously and enjoy the presence of birds, dogs, chickens, butterflies as well as that of Monty.  In fact I do have a soft spot for Nigel.  To me that's a real garden, plus shattlecocks, tennis balls and abandoned bikes!

I like Monty's relaxed style and don't believe that I have really ever disliked any of the material offered by the various contributors.

However, I thoroughly dislike the cinematic mode (if that's the terminology for it) they are using in this series.  I can only imagine that it's cheaper??

Hosta - you might be a Hostafarian if you grew some dreadlocks....image

Perhaps the clematis segment could have been extended to include more cultivation info. Anyone wanting to indulge in some new varieties would be interested in propagation techniques for instance, and a bit of extra info on pruning and feeding etc.

A decent sized segment on different plants (as in Verdun's suggestions) along those lines would surely be beneficial.

Just my thoughts - for what they're worth image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I loved all of last night's programme ......... cinematic mode Danae - was I in a trance then? image

How did all of those clematis fare in this winter's wet I wonder? I loved the smaller flowered varieties ....... and I would love to have one of Monty's greenhouses - any one would do - I'm not fussy image

Is Chris whatsits from the Chelsea Physic Garden the new presenter then?

Sparkles - thank you - I'll try and find that thread image

Loved the Clematis slot and was strangely drawn to the tree surgeon ( spot )

  • Hi Jinxy, well, I'm not sure of the exact terminology but I've noticed that the picture is not as clear and sharp as it used to be.  I have several episodes from the previous series recorded and can see most clearly that the picture quality is not the same.

My son in law, who... understands digital recorders, unlike me, tells me that the programme is recorded in "film mode", whatever that means.  I know one thing, it looks poor quality and I don't like it!
