Gardengirl, I use the BBC weather forecast and http://www.wunderground.com They both give the minimum night temperature for each night for more than a week ahead. WU used to be much better till about two or three years ago when the original site was sold to some commercial TV channel or such, in my opinion the quality of forecasts went sharply downhill then, but it's still worth checking it out. It also tells you what the temperatures were like in previous days (in the Almanac section), which can be useful if you're wondering whether there was a frost during the night or not...
I think your plot looked great even on the first inspection day! I don't know what more they could want.
Thanks Aster2 for the weather forecast page looks like temps don't go too low for the week
Thanks for the comment on my plot, even though dug the big area in winter the weeds were back fast carboard did make the place look messy and now I have more room for growing bits - so far cut flower seeds in and some veg
GWRS sunflowers nice mine are still small for the allotment plot yo sound like load done nice when that happens - that was lucky with the weather - part way into the day was at the allotment started spitting got worse then went for lunch in car and it sloshed it down which lasted nearly 2 hours we were sitting in car hoping to get back to the plot to carry on eventually it stopped for a bit we went back on plot more digging done
So got quite a bit of digging off the top growth of soil weeds and tufts of grass on the far end of plot for where the potatoes are going and some cutting down - where it rained so much soil was very sloshy bit like boggy plots and soil all over boots
Hello all , decided to buy some large " bark chippings " to put around permanent planting and done on new rasberry bed , to cut down on weeding will put picture on , will then make sense
The shredding we get delivered free is to light , except for paths
Went to the allotment plot yesterday and done some hoeing of weeds and more digging found lots of boulders under soil and bits of carpet and general rubbish then did a bit of seed sowing
Enjoying watching Chelsea flower show
Today been volunteering at the new Woolston station garden project cutting back lots of brambles and clearing a lot - lots of crap that has been thrown in there to clear
Hi everyone, had a nice time in France. I've brought back some veg seeds, they sell them by weight in France and not number of seeds so when buying plants which have tiny seeds you get two sealed packets...:)
Not been able to read everyone's posts but hi to the new posters and I liked everyone's pic's, zoomer makes a mental note to learn how to post pic's...
Planted out alot of seedlings before I went on hoilday and sowed alot in the GH. Hope we haven't had any frosts here in the NW over the past two weeks... spuds were just poking through the ground, broad beans, pea's, sunflowers, chad, brussels, dahlia's and other stuff went out.
Back at work on Friday so going to the plot in the morning. Happy growing everyone...
Hello Zoomer glad you had a nice time away and got some seed - hope all the seeds have come up at the allotment and plants doing well
Thanks GWRS
