Buying online

  • I have bought plug plants from Thomson & Morgan that were so small they took 2 years of potting on before I could plant them outside.  I can strongly recommend the RHS - pricier but really good quality plants and packaging excellent.

I find I now go to garden centres and cringe when I see the prices - buying online beats the socks off GCs on all counts!

I no longer buy small plants on-line having had a couple of disasters. I have, though, bought soft fruit, apple and pear plants on-line with great success from several well known suppliers. All the plants have been growing on very well and the service, price and quality of produce from these suppliers was second to none.

Redwing ive looked at buckingham - prices seem ok, but it doesnt say what size of plant/pot size you are buying. I looked at grasses, heuchera, a couple of others. its a bit irritating,

I wouldn't even consider Thompson & Morgan again - I ordered from them last year, the plant was tiny and it promptly died. They were quick to take my money, slow to send the plant, and even slower to refund the money.

Mercifully I can still buy wholesale from my old suppliers which keeps the cost down. Downside is they're all in Surrey so need to make a special trip.

    Devon.
  • I buy my plugs from Jersey Plants and plants from various sites like Thompson & Morgan, Van Meuwen, Parkers and Hayloft.  I've had good experience from Parkers, may be just lucky.  If you sign up for e-mails you can get some good offers but you have to be quick reading e-mails as some sell out the same day, especially from Hayloft.
