Buying online

ProfCoolProfCool Posts: 41

Hi all, does anyone have experience of buying plants online? Is it considered a bad idea, or are there sites considered more reputable than others for the quality of their plants? If so can anyone name any sites for both quality and price.

Thanks

  • Hi Prof.  I have bought plants from Thompson and Morgan, De Jager and Montrose of Guernsey amongst others with no problems with delivery or quality.

That is of course my experience, others may have differing views.

    I hope this helps.

ProfCool, have a look at the Good Guys thread on here. People give their experiences of various online suppliers. There are some consistently good or excellent suppliers and the usual ones who get repeatedly overall less flattering reviews. I only use a handful myself, I tend to go to local nurseries more, I'm lucky I some excellent ones nearby.

I am with Verdun. I buy almost everything on line. If you look through on line catalogues, you will see how much more choice there is, when compared to GCs.

How can you lie there and think of England

I have bought a lot of bare rooted trees and shrubs online and have found excellent prices and excellent quality.  Two that I particularly recommend are Buckingham Nurseries  and Three Fat Pigs whose websites are  http://www.buckingham-nurseries.co.uk/acatalog/Index_Hedging__Trees__Shrubs___Conifers_1.html and

  • For bulbs I like deJager of Kent, Crocus plants, lovely condition but sometimes top price. You soon forget the price, it's the quality that counts I think.  Parker dutch bulbs I wouldn't touch again, J P Morgan packaging not good so would not order again from them. Groves nurseries for violets excellent

this is just a personal appraisal of the ones I have used.

Hmmm i dont buy anything much online except bulbs.  I think plants are more expensive, though i have used 3fatpigs.  Quality OK, packaging failed a bit.  ill check out other suggestions though.  I am quite rural here, so finding a good online supplier would be great.  Sounds like i am more price sensitive than you guys.
