Anyone recognise the white hairy stuff?  I identified it eventually...

Sorry Fairy, we overlapped!  I'm typing with difficulty because the cat's draped over my arm.  image

Yes, seriously weird, and lasted only a few days; it's the fruiting bodies of liverwort.

Can't decide if it's fascinating or horrible Liri!

Or a bit of both image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It looked quite stunning with low sun shining through it.

Fascinating I think, for me - just a reminder of how little I know, that it had never occurred to me to wonder about the reproduction of liverworts.

When my Dad retired he spent ages studying ferns and mosses.  I think I can see the attraction...

I love those beautiful, delicate, pale green lichens you get on trees and rocks Liri. I find myself sitting looking at them quite often when walking  image

    Must be an age thing....image

Possibly, Fairy...  I take photos of them as well.  Amazing patterns & colours.  And they can live for hundreds of years - puts me in my place a bit  image

...I mean the ones on rocks; the beautiful hairy ones you get on blackthorn bushes are lovely too, but grow faster.

Another splendid shot, Sheps......I spotted this fellow today, but have no idea what it is. TBH, it was about 300 yds away, so not all that clear, even with a 48x zoom lens.

Great photo, David.  How near the sea are you?  In shape and colouring it looks like a female or juvenile shag, but what would it be doing up a tree??
