Cloggie, is that a painters pallet geranium? I've grown some from seed this year and yours are the first I've seen in bloom! I've got six that have come through and are potted on and doing nicely
My new bed is taking some time as we had torrential rain today, I still haven't made up my mind what I'm doing but I'm shuffling plants around and sketching ideas
I'm trying chives to see if it stops the berberis sawfly, as last year it stripped the leaves before I noticed, I put chives outside the greenhouses and have never had problem with greenfly or whitefly inside, so perhaps it might work with the berberis.
The hosta is in a copper pot, slugs don't go near it. I don't put down slug pellets because of the Hedgehogs.
I was about to say - that's a very pristine hosta Joybell!
I've had them in metal pots before to prevent slug and snail damage and it works well. They would mainly be in the shade anyway and they don't overheat here generally.
Lovely foxgloves.
Wonks - arranging and sketching is all part of the fun. I seem to do more planning than actual 'doing' these days...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Fairy, I'm at that stage where I realise that things I've planted need bigger spaces, forgot that given the right conditions, things grow! so having a bit of a reshuffle as I'm on a budget of things I find on free cycle..... Being a womble and what not, the actual structure of the screening is probably going to be the last bit as the materials haven't..,well materialised yet thought I could dig some fym in and plant then put structure in later with some climbers
The pale rose, of which I have no idea what its called, smells incredible! A and only cost me four quid from my secret plant stand man
Joybell, the Hosta is a thing of beauty! I have so many slugs!!! Maybe I need to give my garden and everything in it with copper slug tape! Myblupins have terrible fury aphids that I'm squishing daily and ants are still farming green aphids on my appletree dispute Vaseline being coated on the trunk! Luckily my big climbing rose has a million ladybird larvae on it so I think things are taking care of themselves...I hope
I know what you mean Wonks. It's all very well the blurb saying 'grows to around 1 metre' or whatever, but it isn't always the case, as you've found out!
Getting to know your plot and conditions is all part of it too. Always a learning curve.
Doesn't help if you buy wrongly named plants either - as I've just realised with the Philadelphus I've got...

Wonky - your garden is beautiful - and to think that this time last year it was just an overgrown mess. You should be very proud of yourself. im proud of you :-)
my clematis HF Young is flowering beautifully after a problem due to drought last year.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Your clematis is a gorgeous colour, Dove. I wonder if I could find room for one somewhere...
Wonky, your garden is a delight. You're obviously a natural... perhaps it's in the genes!
Joybell, I've just read your "profile" and am not in the least surprised to find you open your garden for the NGS. It's really lovely. And thanks to you and Fairy, I feel inspired to try a hosta in a copper pot. I love them but I wage a permanent battle with slugs here.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
