Niobe is beautiful, Fairy.  I love that colour - quite fancy growing 'Rebecca' for one of my granddaughters image as it's a lovely dark red...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Liri - I think Rebecca might be more scarlet - it's sometimes hard to tell from photos though. I've never seen it 'in the flesh'.

Rouge Cardinal is quite similar to Niobe - I intend getting another one of those for similar colour later in the year on a nearby wall. It's very prolific. To be honest - there's so many  it's hard making a decision!  image

Fairy, after seeing your lovely Niobe last year I bought two and got them in mid summer. I haven't managed to get them to do much although they have a couple of flowers  I know some clematis take a while to establish. Whats your secret?

Dunno LP! Mine was quite a small plant which I potted on in a deep container and then planted out in late summer 2014. It gets plenty of water, and I do nothing much apart from prune back in late winter/early spring. It got a bit of bone meal back in March, and I probably gave it tomato food a couple of times last year before it flowered because I didn't do the bonemeal that year, but nothing else. image

This is what it was like when I planted it out in  2014

    Lovely Flumpy  image

Hope you're well - not 'seen' you here much recently.

LP - it had had a few flowers that first summer - you can see the seedheads - but it's well covered now. I couldn't get to it this year to tie it in properly, so it's a bit messy, but I quite like it like that!  image

It's beautiful against the screen FG. Really makes it stand out. Come with me to Taylor's website...you know you want to........image

Ahh pp - I spend too much time on that website as it is! I already have several earmarked  image

In theory, the screen will be removed at some point. I'll need to sort something out for the clem when that happens. I will probably use some of the screen in behind the 'boxes' at each end, or just wind the clematis round the supporting post. Haven't thought that  far ahead yet  image
