This year trying 'white habanero' chilli, 'jaune flamme' and 'sweet million' tomatoes and cucumbers for the first time. Also 'uchiki kuri' winter squash, 'red veined' sorrel and two types of samphire (one of which has to be watered using salt.) Then there are the Suiss sweetcorn, dwarf 'ferrari' Kenyan beans, 'sanguina' beetroot, and the 'ananas' and 'schoons hard shell' melons. Just for the change. Oh! And five types of carnations to brighten the plot up.

  • Hi Mel,

There seems to be two different 'White Habanero' types.

    1) Bullet or lantern shaped, a.k.a. Habanero White Bullet, and usually described as being carribean.

    2) More typical hab shape and a.k.a. as Habanero White Giant.

Confusingly, both types are also sometimes described as Peruvian White Habaneroimage

I think mine are the second type, which are you trying?

  • As I got two propagation heat mats for Christmas from my hubby, I am trying again to grow petunia's and trailing begonia's from seed. Had a go last year, but the weather was poor, and the greenhouse didn't get any where near the required heat to germinate the begonia's: I did eventually get a few petunia's growing, but very late in the season. I already have one petunia that has germinated using the heat mat!!!

After getting some reduced at the garden centre the end of last year, I am also giving ornamental cabbages ago later in the year, and silver dust (chinerania), as this year we are removing our tiny lawn, and replacing with a small pond and rockery.  Both plants give lovely autumn and winter coloursimage

I'm having a go at growing some Broad Leaved Lime trees. It's not quite the soil around here - too acid, but there are chalk flats and lime quarries not far down the coast, and I've heard the flowers contain medicines used by bees. I've already put them in to stratify, now I'm waiting for the spring to wake them up.

Hi Chris 11. The White Habanero chilli I have came from Seedaholic and are titled 'Peruvian or Yucatan' white habanero. Apparently they are jelly bean shape, about 2 inch by 3/4 inch, and are rated at 3000,000. Hot, but nowhere near the 2 million (so they say) from the California Reaper I have comming on in the propagator.

Apparently this Habanero is a small bushy plany but very productive. We shall see! I will let you know how they do and send some seed on to you if they are successful.

you have a tiny space on that table I will send you the Rehmanna PiasezkiI seeds to fill it ?

Thank you so much for the seeds Jeff, that was a surprise!

The others look very precious, I hope I can get them going.

I hope everyone will not be too hasty with their seed growing, if you sow them too soon, you will have very leggy plants by end of May when you can plant them out. I only sow a few in mid Feb, the rest, like tubs, baskets and bedding in mid March through to April.
