Wonderful mallow Art - didn't know you could grow them as annuals - how tall is that one ?  Looks like a potential back of border plant to add to next year's list...

Chicky, as with everything this year the lavatera are unusually tall, just over 1 metre. Normally more like .6 of a metre. They much prefer the rather poor sandy soil in the bed just outside my fence. When I have grown them on the main flower bed which gets mulched with compost and more TLC, they don't seem too happy.image

    Smashing stars ladies! image

Same as chicky - the slate path with the sleepers is really lovely MrsG. image

Love that Lavatera too. I'd have the same problem art - it would probably grow best in the rubbishy soil outside the garden fence here. image

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    lovely colourful healthy plants matt.

Artjak, had forgotten about the sunglasses! There's also a skeleton in that tree, not sure if its in the photo though.

OH is feeling very proud of the sleeper/slate steps, shhhh!!!
  • I have been very happy with the mix of verbena bonariensis, scabious and bronze fennel.  The butterflies like it too!

The picture does not give a fair representation of how nice the colours are together.

  • artjak nice trimestris-also loved the silvery pink one -a couple of years ago the seeds suddenly disappeared from all US catalogs-pity, they are so much more decorative than the perennial

pootler- I can imagine exactly how nice that combination is. I have some dark annual cornflowers which are a similar colour and they look great with V. bon. image
