If only we could have more gardening programmes there would be a greater chance that there would be something for everyone.

I enjoy GW every week but some weeks a lot more than others. A low point was the episode with those hanging baskets made out of moss and string. A high point is Nigel (but I miss Alan T's cat though)!

My votes would go to an hour long weekly programme of each of the following:

    1) Christine Walkden. The woman is a gardening legend and her enthusiasm, knowledge, skill and passion is inspiring. I'd like to see her in her own garden as well as other gardens owned by passionate amateurs.

    2) Carol Klein. I'd like a series on propagation throughout the year from Carol again from her own garden.

    3) Allotment gardens. A series dedicated to showing people's allotment plots. From the old pro's to the beginners throughout the year.

There are sooooo many ideas and opportunities for telly-maker-folks to give this huge enjoyable interest more air time.

Christine walkden is excellent.  Sorry Carol K is too giggly and dramatic......drives me potty.

Well, that's probably the crux of the matter, Verdun......both of us with quite a few gardening miles on the clock and we see it totally different. I'll not be unkind by posting what I think about Christine Walkden, but hardly see her as having anything like the knowledge base of Carol K.

Carol was a serious contender head GW when Monty D was appointed.....rather a shame it worked out as it did.

This blasé acceptance that Monty doesn't set himself up to be an expert, mystifies me......why is he there? I just hope next time I fly in an aeroplane or undergo surgery, that the person with tools has a better grasp of things.

Btw, I'm a dog lover too, I just can't see why Monty's mutt should be in every shot.

Beechgrove is another program worth watching when I remember image

Allotment programme would be good  , even people without allotments may find it useful after all it is all gardening  image

  • They did have an Allotment Challenge or something, but that seemed a bit artificial, starting out with a clean plot (which never happens). And the idea of a competitive alloment show is quite alien to most allotment sites, where people are normally very cooperative and supportive.

Perhaps one of the problems is that there is no detailed programme plan for the series so that easy things like rooting ivy and vinca cuttings a few weeks ago could have been covered prior to planting them out this week but I do get annoyed when Monty talks of what he is going to plant then barrows out what looks to be a load of plants bought from a GC. It is an expensive way of doing things that not all of us can afford. I still remember with fondness GH taking box cuttings for his box hedges from a couple of plants and seeing them grow over the years. It made me do the same many years later - buying one plant and ending up with a hedge a few years later. Glory days!

I wish GW was currently on our TV. We haven't had an episode for months. I suppose they'll bring it on for summer viewing at least 6 months behind to suit our seasons.  I don't want to criticise Monty or any of the presenters because I just like to see what other people do in their gardens. Yesterday they presented an episode of LOve Your Garden with Alan T and his team fixing up a garden for a family who had a disabled child. I certainly wouldn't want someone else to change my garden into something so formal, but i like seeing the ideas even if I wouldn't like them myself. I really think they would be better simply sending in a team of gardeners to do a tidy up rather than re-styling the whole back yard with hard structures that will be there forever. However, I WILL watch next week's episode because I just like to watch gardening programs. I also like the light relief bits of a pet or two interacting in the garden.
