  • It's Jay for me really, but hopefully they will all do some stunning dances next week and we can just enjoy a great show. In all honesty once it's over we do forget about it all very quickly. image

Not quite with this, the GBP did not keep Katie in the Judges did and at three to one no argument. Katie danced an almost perfect Waltz unlike the earlier version, Anita looked tense and pensive to me Katie won the dance off. It is not about personalities now but dancing and I look forward to next week and the final will be Georgia and Jay.

Did you enjoy the lovely tender beef Lily, I got a big hug off Hannah before she went to the Pantomime and she told me she passed the Latin but will not get to know the marks until the medal presentation, "oh" to be young again and dancing.

Was something cut from the program, or did I nod off? I didn't see Tess ask Anton & Katie what dance they were going to perform image

    Sorry to see Anita go.

Kef, it was so obvious that Katie was not comfortable with the Charlston there was no need to ask. Anita danced best in the two dances then froze up in the dance off, the judges had to vote on that alone. Kate will be gone in the first round of the final not being acrobatic then we will see.

Given Len's comments after her dances, neither of Anita's dances would have pleased Len as he didn't like the choreography.   I loved them both but can see Len's point as they were both very bold, daring and physical choreographies.   Gleb is brilliant but maybe just a tad to inventive for Len,   The salsa did have plenty of armography but a bit too much Hip Hop too.

Katie is definitely the weakest one left and I'd like to see Georgia or Jay win it.   Kevin is clever with his choices of steps but Kellie doesn't please or warm the cockles the way the other two do.

It's such a pity that the judges chose Katie, who's dancing, I believe with their friend, Anton rather the amazing Anita.  Len is, of course, quite a fossil and always hates anything that was not part of "the routine" two centuries ago(!) but I'm glad Craig had the honesty to vote Anita the better dancer.  As he's the strictest, she must find his vote truly gratifying.

However, Gleb should have been a little less innovative and more aware of the dangers that are there when you're being judged by some fossil or the personal friends of your "opponent".

Anita was a delight to watch and as a result of her elimination we now have no untrained celebrities.  All the remaining ones have had some training and Jay in particular quite extensive dance training:

As his love for the performing arts grew he attended the prestigious Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in Nottingham."

Being a fossil myself I do understand Lens wish to see some correct dancing steps according to the rules of the competition which the BBC laid down. If it were to be an open to any type of dance then we could expect the energetic acrobatic style of dancing Gleb and Giovanni bring to strictly and it would exclude any one over 21, surely an opportunity for another kind of show. Three judges voted for Katie as I would have done for her waltz saying that was favouritism is wrong and unfair on the judges.

  • Hi Frank, I took Phaidra's "fossil" to simply  mean, a markedly outdated, old fashioned outlook, which can apply to Len, I think. He knows his stuff, of course, but when there's no agreement amongst the "experts", just majority vote by the subject's mates (and nobody can make this claim for Gleb), it suggests, I feel, something might not be how it should be.  Perhaps?

Katie is very elegant, no doubt, but I, personally, always found Anita EXCITING to watch.  SCD is a BIT of a competition (after all, the winners are chosen by the people, many of whom, just like me I should imagine, have two left feet, rather than the expert judges) but MOSTLY an entertainment programme. So, for me at least, exciting, able and thrilling innovation is much preferrable to elegant but unexciting performances.

I seem to recall that in an American Smooth the maximum number of permitted lifts is just three.  I'm sure my eyes did not mislead me when I actually counted seven in Kellie and Kevin's performance.   Yet, not a sound from "strickler" Len or the others.  Why??

  • I forgot to also mention that with Anita's elimination we've been left with no untrained contestants.  Jay, who can be a delight to watch has had serious dance training.  He trained at the Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama from which he graduated at the age of 19, just five years ago.  When he wasn't able to find work as a dancer, he joined the boy band, The Wanted.

For this reason, I should much prefer Georgia to win it.  It would be fairer, I think.
