Don't think she will, she was 2nd on the leaderboard. Very supple at 58. I haven't heard of many of them, so haven't sorted out yet who is who.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Yes I know, BL image but it's only the first dance?image and it's audience choice too.

And I'm not sure how popular she is. She keeps going for the sympathy vote already....her Paul would love her dancing on strictly.

I must admit she was quite good and very supple. But still think votes were rather high for first week.

  • So that is it then, forget the dancing just take into account your liking of the personage, probably why you did not see very much of the foot work Saturday. Aston and Janette were the best dancers on the night with Debbie a close second still next week the GPB get to vote so expect any dancing skills will be undermined by likes and or dislike of the person. Oh well back to the History programmes then.

History is about personages too Frank.   I do think the judges identified the best dancers on the night but were more harsh on the earlier dancers and too tolerant with the later ones.  Maybe, since the new judge is keen on correct footwork, the director will allow us shots of the feet in future.  Live in hope and all that.

  • Obelixx I do know I get annoyed when the object of the competition i.e. dancing is degraded by the people watching not getting that point, it is after all a dance competition no matter what the programmers think it is. The Saturday night event outshone ITV so it proves that dancers are not really turned off, I may carp on but will watch it to the bitter end. I do know you like to see the footwork as I do that is after all what dancing is about and thank goodness we have a judge who like Len watches out for it, the other three just look at the overall picture and not the work that makes that picture. Anyway the GBP will put the kibosh on it no matter what we think.

I lived some History Obelixx and it amazes me how people who were not there are let loose to give opinions often wrong on events we saw. Having seen some of the reports written after the event in unit Diaries I often wonder if I was even there.

Human memory is selective PG and often has rose tinted specs or a "not my fault" slant.  That's why they now give mini video cams to some police officers and advise dash cams for drivers.

Being cynical, I suspect the main aim of SCD is to have a fairly cheap, crowd pleasing programme that boosts viewing figures and wups ITV.  I used to enjoy the professional dance demos more when they brought in world class experts from many disciplines rather than the recent development of group dances done with the home gang, even tho some are or have been world class.  It's not the same.

I agree in thinking it is so dumbed-down now and crass that it is hardly worth watching. Disappointed in it as it was the highlight of the weekend viewing. Don't think I will bother with it this year for the first time ever.

There were some crocks last year but there always are.  There were some fabulous routines too where music, choreography, dancing and sometimes even the costumes got pretty close to perfection.   Hoping for more of the latter this year.

Was away so didn’t see program , will probably watch it next Saturday ????

  • No matter what SCD becomes I would suppose we dancers will watch, sometimes in horror and at times in fascination and even joy as some real dancing happens? As the only alternative is some XYZ dog and pony show on the other side I would rather go blind than watch that leaves dark sultry Nordic murder where the good guy's are worse than the baddies. What ever happened to the family Saturday night I ask? The Zoe show I watched last night or part of it has become nothing but a love in so that is another part I will miss out, "Oh well" there is always children TV they say we go back to childhood as we get older, I would not mind a second one, cricket on the village green, roller skates, now where did I put that top and whip??
