But we hadn't mentioned heleniums, I have 3 sorts and I've just been splitting and moving a big yellow one. Heather as well - no Scots here?

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Lizzie - what is an iberis ?

And throw my vote in for Iris too - I have some deep purple and some light blue ones that look dangerously like they will flower this year (fattish leaves, which I am convinced are concealing a flower bud).

Also agree that the little ones are lovely, when they are vibrant.  Tried some Katherine Hodkin this year and they were very washed out.

I didn't get to put in my Hibiscus either (was a bit worried it might go with Hydrangea in the popularity stakes - but hey-ho I like them !!)

Chicky I had reticulata iris called 'Pauline' which was a lovely rich purple. I also love chrysographes as it's so dark.
