Have just mentioned it to my granddad, he said that when he was a nipper,there was lots of neighbours dogs that followed the youngsters, without leads as now!
When a horse done it's doings on the road most of the dogs would eat some for whatever reason!
None ever seemed to come to any harm, and as horses were veggies there should be nothing nasty in their droppings!
Watching TV nature programmes there is lots of references to animals like elephants to birds eating clay's or soils to give minerals or other necessities, they seem to know what is good for them!
Ps and most people tried to get the manure for their gardens as well!
