    When's the big day?

Next Saturday Daintiness. Did lots of jams yesterday and just up early to finish off the Apple and elderberry jelly as well as the strawberry jam. Been soaking the strawberries over night. Not followed a recipe that does that with jam before so it may be off to the shops for more strawberries later!

On the song title front, I was going to go for a rose title, but I don't have enough roses left in the garden! So I'm going for Chick Chick Chick Chick Chicken (Lay a Little Egg for me).  My dad has painted up a metal chicken and cut away the wire underneath so I can fill it with wet oasis and cover the body in cut flowers. I'm going to stage it on some turf, or straw, and put an egg next to it and a watch set to half past three. I have a vision, I just hope it works!

My mum has decided to enter one too and is going for either Green Green Grass of Home, or Tie a Yellow Ribbon.

Soaking the strawberries is meant to help keep them whole when they are boiled up, and intensify the flavour. There's a lot of juice so I think some pectin might be needed!

wooops!  I'd not thought about it being a cockerel! How funny!  My other half is rolling around with laughter!  I'll just have to go with that artistic licence LesleyK suggest! Maybe I won't place the egg 'under' the cockerel though! Unless anyone knows a song title with 'cockerel' in it!!  image
